Tutoring review by Mathew in University Park, TX
The students continued tackling the verbal and writing sections of the SAT today in preparation for the client's December 3rd test. We began by reviewing clustered vocabulary from the previous class. The student was challenged in a variety of ways -- to come up with synonyms for words, definitions for words, use them in sentences, and tell me their (SAT-level) opposites. We then began working through problems in the third of four practice tests that we will be engaging this week. We closed by having the Student 1 spend a few minutes looking at an essay prompt, thinking about how she would attack it, and then to give a small, short speech summarizing her essay in general. I then critiqued her approach with an eye toward making it both internally consistent, and more direct in answering the topic question.

The student and I reviewed his last practice test. He continues to be strong in math. As long as he reads carefully, he will do well on that section. His scores on both Reading Comprehension and Verbal went down slightly for this test, but he continues to have excellent scores. He needs to continue studying vocabulary before Saturday's test date.

The student and I went over a sample writing of his. We also worked on a paper that asked to determine different parts of speech as practice. It was a very good session. Next time, I'll have better sample sentences for him to practice working out.

Tutoring review by Joseph in University Park, TX
Today we prepared for the student's upcoming test, first by reviewing the addition/subtraction/multiplication/division/transitive properties, and then by practicing more proofs using said properties. The substitution property was more difficult to practice due to the context of the material; however, I was able to write a couple of problems to help the student understand it better.
