Physics Tutoring review by Andrea in Arlington, TX
Today we worked on 2d kinematics and 2d forces. For the 2d kinematics we looked at projectile motion of an object which has some initial horizontal velocity. There was a online homework going over those types of problems, and the student had no difficulty in solving those. Next we looked at 2d forces. After going over a few problems and explaining how the most important thing is to correctly draw a picture and sum forces in the x and y direction separately, she was doing much better. She still may need a little more practice. After some initial guidance, however, she is perfectly able to solve the problems.

We had our first session today and covered topics in electricity and magnetism. We started with electromagnetic wave - discussing the relationships between wave speed, frequency, wavelength, and energy, as well as propagation of waves through space. We then went to magnetism, covering Lorentz force, Ampere's Law, Faraday's Law, and Lenz Law. We did a few practice problems dealing with Faraday's Law, and these were quite helpful in understanding inductance.

Physics Tutoring review by Devon in Arlington, TX
Today, the student and I went over the approach to tackling problems regarding the balance of forces. I learned a lot about her thought processes around problem solving, and I think she is now much more comfortable and confident in her approach. She absolutely solidified many key concepts today. Some of which include: a true understanding of Newton's laws and their applications, the balance of forces, acceleration, friction (static vs kinetic), how to draw free body diagrams and their importance, and much more! I am really pleased with her level of progress. She is clearly open to learning, and I think we developed a great rapport. I look forward to our future sessions, as it gives me great enjoyment to see people succeed, and, in my opinion, she shows great promise in doing so.

Physics Tutoring review by Philip in Arlington, TX
We reviewed the student's homework, quiz, and test from the past week. We also reviewed concepts discussed in class regarding kinetic and gravitational potential energy using the conservation of energy theorem. We tried to illustrate these concepts using more equations than words in an attempt to prove the theory is correct with numbers. We also previewed a couple of upcoming homework questions to prepare for the coming week.

Physics Tutoring review by Travis in Arlington, TX
The student really needed help with a physics test and makeup quiz that she has tomorrow, so we worked on some of the homework that she had missed. The unit covered Newton's Laws of Motion. We talked about how to break up forces in the x and y direction and then to use that information in order to solve for unknown forces, such as friction, applied forces, or acceleration. We practiced different types of scenarios, including blocks on an inclined plane, blocks connected by strings, and blocks on pulleys. We also worked some problems involving static equilibrium.

Physics Tutoring review by Andrew in Arlington, TX
Today was the student's final session before his first exam, so we decided to focus on the types of problems that he is feeling least confident about. We had done a lot of work in previous sessions on equations of motion, so we focused on force problems, particularly ones involving slopes and pulleys. While he was struggling with the example problems at the beginning of the session, by the time we wrapped up he was working complex pulley problems almost entirely on his own, with only occasional minor guidance from me. Given that he was working some of the most difficult example problems from his textbook today, I think he will do fine with whatever his professor throws at him on his exam tomorrow.
