Tutoring review by Jeana in Forest Hill, TX
Today the student brought in a physics assignment and trigonometry chapter review packet. We had some good discussion while doing physics side by side. He did an excellent job of explaining concepts to me. After finishing his homework, he finished his entire trigonometry review packet. I'm sure he'll do well on his test next class.

We reviewed for the student's test on surface areas and volumes of various shapes. We also started on her review sheet for her final. She said she felt confident about our session, especially about using the formulas correctly. I would advise her to slow down and show her work because she knows her material but may make small mistakes.

We continued discussing the student's practice AP exam responses, focusing on passage analysis questions. His instincts are good and his incorrect choices are more often than not plausible answers, so we discussed how to choose in questions that require considerations of degree (best, most closely, etc.). To do this, we worked on close-reading passages to determine the relationships between ideas at the level of the sentence, especially recognizing central ideas from supporting ones. Where necessary, we went over essential vocabulary.

Tutoring review by Jeffrey in Forest Hill, TX
We covered both algebra II, and chemistry. For algebra II, we discussed finding roots of quadratic equations. We had to start off with clearing up some definitions/terminology. From there we reviewed the quadratic equation, and factoring. Factoring is one of the most important skills for math, so we will definitely review that next time. For chemistry, we discussed naming ionic compounds. The key to nomenclature is to focus in on the system and its rules. If that is kept straight in your head, nomenclature is usually very simple.

It was a pleasure to meet and work with the student. She is a very diligent and enthusiastic student. She and I went over her latest pre-algebra test and wrote up her test corrections for submission. Next time, we will begin to review the earlier parts of her math curriculum this year.

Tutoring review by Kassandra in Forest Hill, TX
The student showed a lot of improvement during this session. She scored much better on the practice questions, especially in reading comprehension. She understands that spending a bit more time reading and understanding the text is key to being able to quickly and efficiently select the best answer choice. Her scores in the verbal portions also improved drastically due to her spending maybe a bit more time to employ problem solving strategy. I asked her how she felt about taking the test, and she seemed very confident. Slowing down just a bit to process the information helps her a lot. I am looking forward to hearing how she did! I am confident she will do quite well.
