Which grade in?

Mr. D. was able to keep my daughter engaged and interested the entire session. He made her feel confident with reading. She stated that he was the "best teacher in the world". She gave him two thumbs up and a heart. I'm very pleased with my investment towards my child's education using Varsity Tutors.

What year in?

I want to thank VT for connecting me with my English tutor. I'm a 49 yr old that enrolled back in college to complete my degree and I was having the most difficult time meeting the demands of my writing assignments. But fortunately, I was matched with an educator that has made what seemed hopeless in my efforts to write academic papers effectively a piece of cake.

I'm very grateful to have found VT. They made the difference between a pass and fail grade for my son. English was one of his most challenging classes and with Varsity Tutors he passed the course. I'm forever grateful.

Do they have an IEP or 504 plan? (We have tutors that specialize in learning differences)

The tutor that was paired with my daughter was perfect and fits Bella's needs. Bella struggles with attention and has been on a 504 plan for years. The tools used, the interaction and flexibility are priceless. I was hesitant at first but now I'd do it again and I recommend Varsity Tutors!!

Good session. Student was prepared, worked slightly ahead, and seemed to have read the book we were discussing. The session was primarily spent going over Dickinson's poetry, a project related to that, and taking Exam 3 for his online course.

We worked on creating an outline for a process essay the student will have to write in class. After we finished this homework assignment, we reviewed the excerpt on dumpster diving that the student will be tested on this week.

The student and I rewrote some of his "reflections" he did for class. We worked on breaking up his run-on sentences and being more precise. He did a good job. We then talked about the difference between irony and sarcasm, as used in his book. We did logic problems to improve his critical thinking skills. He enjoyed them a lot.

Yesterday was my first tutorial session with the student. This session consisted of a meet & greet to find out his learning style (he is a visual learner), and the areas he felt that he could improve in English and history. We set realistic goals for the weeks to come and I gave him a study assignment that we will review together on Thursday (October 9th). Our tutorial schedule will consist of studying English on Tuesday and history on Thursday. He is a very bright teenager and I look forward to working with him!

English Tutoring review by Brian in Hempstead, NY
This session focused on helping the student develop his vocabulary for an upcoming exam. The student and the tutor utilized the list of 20 vocabulary words from his Unit 4. The tutor offered suggestions to the student to help understand his selected words. The student and the tutor reviewed the list one additional time for clarification. Upon conclusion of this section, the student and the tutor worked on construction of an elegy essay which is part of a new unit on poetry. The student is required to construct an essay for presentation to his class. The tutor offered a subject that the student could build upon and the student agreed to develop that them further for the next session.

English Tutoring review by Patricia in Hempstead, NY
The student and I worked on spelling and reading today. Reading the book took the majority of our time. We practiced spelling first. He did well, mostly missing words that ended with "ck" and easily correcting them. We moved on to reading a Magic School House book with some brain breaks every 2-3 pages. The breaks seem to help him concentrate and improve his accuracy. Along with the book, we created a reading pyramid filling out details such as title, characters, setting, and main events.
