Elementary Math Tutoring review by Carolyn in Worth, IL
We reviewed ratios and word problems involving percentages. She didn't understand at first that a ratio could be written as a fraction, but once we went over it, she did very well. She also did very well on the word problems.

Elementary Math Tutoring review by Antonio in Worth, IL
We covered the foiling method and a little bit of the factoring method. She does not seem to be struggling with much, except signs and adding degrees. Her attitude was that of a winner. I did not include any strategies except repetition. I left her with some practice questions. Her grade on her previous practice questions are improving.

Elementary Math Tutoring review by Christopher in Worth, IL
The student and I started by getting to know each other and giving me a sense of what he's struggling with in math so far this year. We then delved into his math on exponents, solving equations with variables in the exponents. He needs to focus on solving problems in a methodical, step by step fashion, so he doesn't get overwhelmed by the work. With some practice and going through the problems slowly, he began to grasp the concepts. We finished the session by going through his work so far this year and identifying the specific areas we should work on in sessions going forward. We made a plan for our sessions in the coming weeks, which will involve reviewing the concepts he's struggling most with from past weeks and making sure he stays caught up with current assignments. It was a great first session. He is engaged and is clearly motivated to succeed in math. I'm looking forward to working with him.

Elementary Math Tutoring review by Douglas in Worth, IL
The student once again surprised me with his fast-learning ability. We first started off with spelling, where he picked up the words instantly after writing the words 3 times. Then, we proceeded to geography. We looked at the different continents and oceans, and he was able to grasp the concepts at an amazing rate. I gave him some homework to see if he truly understands the material.

Elementary Math Tutoring review by Leora-Dona in Worth, IL
On Tuesday, the student completed her homework packet. The math pages were all word problems, and she began practicing highlighting the pertinent information in each problem per her teacher's suggestion. This practice helped her to more easily understand what type of math function she would complete, as well as the order that the numbers should be placed in, particularly for subtraction problems. She was able to complete the last few problems on her own, without asking for any help and corrected the mistakes she made. Her mother and I agreed to begin asking the student more questions about the main idea or purpose of her school work, as well as everyday occurrences, to help her get more practice in comprehension. I also suggested that her mom print out previous year's state assessment tests and allow the student to complete 1 or 2 problems each day so that she becomes familiar with the format of the test.
