Algebra Tutoring review by Hannah in Worth, IL
The student and I didn't do too many individual lessons, but rather many of the mastery challenges that consist of many lessons that she has already practiced in her online course. So, we got a wide range of problems. Many of the problems were word problems testing different concepts. We did do one lesson plan with word problems that consisted of being given the cost of a product and percentage of active ingredient and asked to determine best bang for the buck or to have the least amount of active ingredient leftover after a certain amount. She needed some practice with these at first, but she understood them very well by the end of the lesson. She just needs to make sure she reads the problem slowly and thoroughly so that she doesn't miss any step. We did a lot with percentages, which she breezed through, as well as putting words into expression and vice versa. We simplified complex fractions (fractions on top of fractions, exponents, etc.) and did a little bit of work on inequalities. At the beginning, she had to be reminded to flip the inequality sign when multiplying or dividing by a negative.

Algebra Tutoring review by Billy in Worth, IL
The student has learned to multiply polynomials since last week's topic. He showed me his homework questions. I recognized them as basic multiplication problems to test his ability to use FOIL and knowing the basic concepts on multiplying terms in parentheses. As he attempts a question from the homework, it is clear that he understands the concept of every term needs to be multiplied once. However, he seems to struggle with multiplication on variables and its exponential components. I asked him to make sure show every step so he can identify where the mistakes are being made. I also used various examples to simplify his conception on the problem. It would take more practice for him to get used to the problem. We will continue with the topic next week.
