If you are studying Chinese at Cherry Creek High School, George Washington High School, or another high school in the Denver area, Chinese lessons can help you keep up with your classes. Alternatively, if you are an adult learner looking to study Chinese, we can help you as well.
Chinese is a great language to learn. It is the most spoken language in the world, with over one billion native speakers. There are Chinese speakers all over the world, including in the United States. Chinese is the official language not just in China, but also in Taiwan. Studying Chinese can be a gateway to absorbing new cultures. Particularly, studying Chinese can help you understand Eastern cultures and philosophies.
Adult learners who are businesspeople or entrepreneurs can often benefit from knowing Chinese. For example, many products are sourced from China. Being able to speak Chinese can help you make connections with manufacturers who can supply you with the products you need. It can also help you negotiate better deals and understand the culture and mindset of the people you are doing business with. Therefore, if you are an undergraduate in university, such as the University of Denver, the Colorado School of Mines, or another university in the Denver area, and you are studying topics related to business, finance, or international trade, you may want to consider taking Chinese lessons.
Studying Chinese can change your life. It can also help you in your career. There is a growing demand for skilled employees who can speak Chinese for many positions.
China is one of the largest countries in the world. Being able to understand Chinese can open up to you a culture that seems closed to many Americans. You can meet new people, make new friends, and travel to new countries. Chinese is spoken by people not just in China and Taiwan, but also in Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, and other countries.
What might I learn when taking a Denver Chinese course?
Chinese is one of the most difficult languages to learn, both when learning to speak it and when learning to write and read it. However, your Chinese course instructor can help you out.
Chinese is a tonal language, like Vietnamese and Thai. This means that the same word can have different meanings, based on the tone being used. There are only four tones in Mandarin Chinese: flat, falling, rising, and falling then rising. However, other Chinese dialects can have up to nine tones.
For native English speakers, mastering the tones in Chinese can be particularly difficult, as there is no equivalent in English. The tones are an integral part of Chinese. If a word is pronounced with the wrong tone, it can have a different meaning, making your sentences senseless. However, your instructor can patiently go over the tones with you until you master how to pronounce them correctly and understand what different words mean based on the tones being used.
While there are many Chinese dialects, all of them share the same written system. There is no Chinese alphabet; Chinese is the only modern language that is pictographic. There are over 50,000 characters in written Chinese. Each symbol represents one syllable. However, there are no rules like there are in the English alphabet. Each symbol has a different pronunciation and must be learned separately. Although there are over 50,000 characters in total, only 20,000 are used regularly. Not only that, but the majority of written Chinese is communicated by using 2,500 characters. However, that is still a lot. Your class instructor can start with the most important characters and gradually introduce new characters based on their level of importance.
Your instructor can also teach you about the history of written Chinese. Many modern Chinese characters come from ancient drawings, where they were used to describe various items. Written Chinese is thousands of years old, with evidence that certain characters were used in the times of the Shang Dynasty.
How will the Denver Chinese course work?
Learning Chinese can be a confusing and difficult process. There is a lot of information to absorb, and many of it will be new to native English speakers. You'll have to learn new characters, get used to a different written system, and get used to speaking words while using different tones. Taking a Denver Chinese course can help you process all of this information. Your instructor can present all this information to the class in an organized style, gradually introducing more and more information.
Your Denver Chinese class takes place over the internet, in a virtual classroom. You will be able to see and hear the other students. You can interact with them, ask questions, and hear questions being asked and discussed by other students. You can join in on class discussions as well and get a chance to practice your Chinese.
If you feel as if you need private time with your instructor, you can request that as well. These courses are designed to give you as many avenues as possible for improving your Chinese language skills. When you get one-on-one time with your instructor, you can go over particular issues that have been bothering you, such as the correct intonation of the different tones or how to write specific characters correctly.

Throughout college and my two years as a math teacher, I found that there isn't one best teaching method. Instead, each student is unique and this reflects in their learning style. A good teacher will be able to change strategies to accommodate for differences in learning styles. I hope to be the best teacher that I can be by listening to my students and adjust my style of teaching to fit the student's needs.... I believe in teaching that is catered towards the individual. Tutoring on a one-to-one level allows the teacher to incorporate strategies that are best suited to the student's learning style.

I am also a second language learner; therefore, I understand the challenges one face when learning another language. My teaching experience will also help you grasp the skills and tricks of memorizing the the tones, vocabulary, and sentence structure. I do hope to work with you.... Introduce myself to the student and give the students opportunities to introduce him/herself. Ask the student what he/she wants to achieve in what time frame. Then set a goal. After that I will do a short evaluation on student knowledge of the language.
