What materials are covered in a San Diego GRE class?
The GRE is broken into three sections: Analytical Writing, Verbal Reasoning, and Quantitative Reasoning. Each section of the GRE has its set time allotment, questions, and response structure. The scoring for each section is also different. The Analytical Writing section scoring range is 0-6, the Verbal Reasoning scoring range is 130-170, and the Quantitative Reasoning section has a scoring range of 130- 170. Now we will break down the contents of each section of the GRE.
The Analytical Writing section of the GRE will give you two tasks to complete. The first task will ask you to analyze an issue and the second task will ask for you to analyze an argument. You will have thirty minutes to complete each task in writing. As you begin the Analytical Writing section of the GRE, you should thoroughly understand the directions of what you will be writing about so you can plan your response. As you are completing each task, you should leave yourself enough time to review your reply for errors and clarity.
You will be assessed on several skills within the Analytical Writing section of the GRE. Your written work must produce the ability to communicate complex concepts through writing effectively and with clarity. Within your writing, you must support your evidence with relevant examples and significant reasoning. You must showcase your ability to maintain a focused discussion and use the proper command of written English. You are given a total of one hour to complete this section of the GRE.
The next section we will examine is Verbal Reasoning. This section of the test includes two parts that contain twenty questions each. Your questions will focus on your text completion and sentence equivalence skills as well as your reading comprehension. The text completion might ask you to decide the best answer for blank sections of short passages or to choose from three to five options for each blank. The sentence completion questions will ask you to select answers to complete sentences, and you will have six choices per blank. You must choose two answers per blank. Reasoning comprehension will ask you to read ten passages and answer related questions with one to six questions per passage.
You want to be able to excel in your understanding and interpretation of written passages. You must also be able to analyze texts by identifying the strengths and weaknesses of a position. You should be able to reach a conclusion with little information and use different parts of the text to support your reasoning. The time allotment you will be given to complete this section of the GRE is sixty minutes. Your San Diego GRE class could help you to strengthen any of the skills that are assessed in the Verbal Reasoning Section of the GRE.
The final section of the GRE is entitled Quantitative Reasoning. This section of the GRE is math and science related. You must use your math skills along with your knowledge of mathematical concepts to respond correctly to the questions asked. The content areas of the Quantitative Reasoning section of the test are arithmetic, algebra, geometry, and data analysis.
You will encounter questions that are in multiple-choice and numeric entry formats. You might also be asked to use your quantitative comparison skills to respond accurately. Similar to the Verbal Reasoning section of the GRE, the Quantitative Reasoning section of the exam also contains two parts with twenty questions each. You are given one hour and ten minutes to answer all of the items in the section.
