...solving puzzles and problems. I try to have fun and be grateful every day. I enjoy my day job as an IT Specialist with Peace Corps, a federal agency whose values I share and whose work I love. My goal as a tutor is to help students discover their individual path to learning. Students do this by identifying their motivations, strengths and goals. Learning is about exploration, discovery, and growth so it should be enjoyed...

In 2014 I graduated from Johns Hopkins University as a Public Health major with a concentration in Immunology and Infectious Diseases. I then went on to complete a Masters program at Georgetown University in human physiology. Given the amount of schooling I have gone through myself, I have taken a wide range of subjects and more standardized tests than I would like to admit. I have taught students of almost every age in various fields...

...really enjoyed helping people understand something they were struggling with. Thats why I hope to tutor as many students as I can handle. The thing I enjoy most about teaching is the opportunity to help students learn. I enjoy knowledge, both the receiving and the giving thereof, and Im looking forward to being able to help your student (or you yourself) grow in the field you are currently grappling with. I have been fortunate to...

David: Washington SAT course instructor
I am a recent graduate of Brandeis University where I double majored in Neuroscience and Health Policy. I am a veteran of the Montgomery County Public School system. I graduated from the International Baccalaureate Program at Richard Montgomery, and was an AP Scholar with distinction. I love working with people to help promote understanding, especially in the areas of math and science.... Teaching style should strongly depend on the student, else you risk either wasting time on ideas that are already understood, or on a method that won't get through. Determine what the student does and doesn't already understand, and work from there; guiding a student towards figuring out the correct answer is usually much more valuable than simply spouting information.

...middle school and high school levels in Lyon, France, while simultaneously improving my conversational French. I will be living in Washington DC for the summer before starting a Ph.D. program in English literature at Cornell University in the fall. I have a passion for reading, poetry, and learning. I strive to help students read and analyze for themselves, instead of worrying about finding the "right answer." This helps them learn how to think critically about...

...fill in the gaps for younger students, building partially from my own academic experience and partially from my knowledge in specific areas, and then tailoring that experience to the needs of the student. I think it is difficult, nearing impossible to learn in an uncomfortable or unwelcoming environment. I would like to help students feel comfortable, heard, able to ask questions and free to make mistakes in the process. I want to reinforce the message...

In December of 2011 I enrolled at ITT Technical Institute. I started tutoring at there in the fall of 2013. ...and leveraging their interests in order to motivate them and build confidence. I hold very high expectations, but I always take the time to figure out what kinds of strategies and supports students need to be successful. I strongly believe in helping students develop a growth mindset, which they can take into any educational experience. I have been teaching in the DC area for 3 years, and understand the demands of the Common Core Standards,...

...to help students with any of these subjects, particularly ACT test prep, math, or writing, a favorite hobby of mine. I know what it's like to be eager about learning, but not have the natural ability to be a fast learner, and I'm ready to share the tips and tricks that I've gathered with other students who want to become better learners as well. In high school, I spent much of my time working with...
