The students began by finishing their homework on cube roots. Today, I taught them solving two-step equations. They then practiced that skill among others on an online program. It was a good lesson. They are now ready for solving equations when it's presented in school for the first time.

The students did very well today. We worked together on math with all three students. The first student is very skilled at solving problems and seems to only make mistakes when he rushes. We will work on this and also introduce some work with parts of speech as we discussed. The second student did well on his problem set and just needs to practice answering the question being asked. The third student and I worked briefly on some larger multiplication and order of operations. All three students are very math-minded and great at doing fast mental math, which is a great skill. We will work on organizing their thoughts so they always get the right answer.

The students had an algebra 2 online quiz. The material covered logs and exponential notation. I reviewed the concept of converting between the 2 equations. We also reviewed some of the algebra rules of exponents - what negative exponents represent and how to express roots as exponents (as fractions). Student 1 had more initial questions about the material, but by the end, both seemed to have a firm grasp on the material. They were each able to answer the last 2 questions completely on their own. After math, I helped both of them with an English assignment. They had to write a haiku based on an online ad. They each had their own ideas, and I just helped them flush out their phrasing that they wanted to incorporate into their haiku poem.
