Tutoring review by Robyn in Brentwood, MO
Today the student and I reviewed the addition rule, finishing his homework. We then spent the remaining amount of time beginning review for his final. Today we reviewed properties of trapezoids and parallelograms, working out a few problems for each. We spent the last ten minutes beginning a more difficult problem in his book. We ran out of time to finish, so I told him to try it himself before our next session after giving him a few hints.

We covered integration with u-substitution and integration by parts. The student was finding difficult to choose the correct terms to apply these methods. She improved by the end of the session, but needs more practice. I asked the student to complete the related homework assignments. We will review any of the problems the student had trouble with during the next session.

Tonight we went over mixture and uniform motion problems. We went through step by step how to translate algebraic word problems into a table and then translate the variables in a table into an equation. The student is doing very well with manipulating equations and solving for different variables. I am excited by her quick progress and know that she will do well on her exam on Wednesday.

The student did a review of adding ed and ing to words in sentences and struggled some with this concept so I spent more time going over it. Other reviewed concepts of using contractions and comparatives and superlatives were completed correctly. I introduced more prefixes and suffixes: re, un, in, ir, il, in, pre, ment, ful, etc. In the next session we will make a list of common words and which prefixes and suffixes will be used. I introduced reflexive pronouns. The student had a good grasp of how they were used. We spent time talking about holiday traditions and plans.

The student and I assessed what was left of her Social History assignment--the essay on the unemployed council and The New Deal. We spent most of the time during this session finishing up what she had written and working on the introduction. Time was also spent on rewriting and revising, reorganizing, and "cleaning up" the essay. We also discussed the possibility of working on her PBA assignment (for the same class) on Saturday.

Tutoring review by Adetunji in Brentwood, MO
We reviewed the student's question set in preparation for his upcoming finals. The topics were line geometry, point slope equations, changing the subject of the equation, and plotting line graphs. His major challenge was how to solve the arithmetic portion of the equations after deriving the standard equations. Towards the end of the session, he was asked to attempt a 7-question homework.
