How can Biology tutoring help you?

Biology is the study of life. There are many common elements that tie all living creatures together, from cell structure to their basic needs. Learning about the commonalities between all living things can prepare you for subjects like zoology, ecology, or botany. If you struggle with biology, it may be difficult for you to tackle higher-level courses. For assistance in your biology course, contact the educational directors at Varsity Tutors for help finding a biology tutor in St. Louis, Missouri.

Biology digs deeper into concepts that you've learned about in previous science courses. Before taking biology, you've likely learned about DNA, cell anatomy, photosynthesis, and other common biological concepts. However, in biology, you'll be learning more details about each of these concepts. If you don't have the basics of these down prior to entering the course, learning more about them could become difficult. Your biology tutor can identify any knowledge gaps you currently have and develop a curriculum that helps to fill them. Perhaps you just need a refresher before your biology course begins. If so, St. Louis biology tutoring can revisit topics that can come up in your course. With a personal tutor, you can focus on the areas that you need work on.

Session Summaries by Biology Tutors

Biology Tutoring review by Farrah in St. Louis, MO
We went over aerobic respiration, anaerobic/fermentation and photosynthesis again. I had to read up on it prior to jog my memory. I broke down cellular metabolism into glycolysis, acetyl CoA, Krebs cycle and electron transport chain. I made sure she knew the significance of each step and could remember what the starting molecules were and the products. We also went over chromosomes, mitosis and meiosis. I should mention that I also taught her some things that were not in her textbooks because I know they are important especially since she wanted to continue with pre-med. Since we only had the rest of the week I started creating quizzes at home for her to do and would email them to her. I wanted her to try them without notes. I started at the beginning of the book and broke it down into sections.

Biology Tutoring review by Stephen in St. Louis, MO
The student had received her midterm review sheet. We sat and reviewed each topic together. We reviewed some concepts from the beginning of the school year. We also completed about half of the seven page review packet in the hour and I told her to continue on her own.

Biology Tutoring review by Ashlee in St. Louis, MO
In this session we primarily focused on reviewing old material. He got a number of homework assignments and a quiz back and we went through each one very carefully to review key concepts. I made him do a lot of drawing on the white board tonight so that he could get the information into his head. I think that he has a good foundation now. I gave him a list of things that I wanted him to do before our session next week (mostly just reviewing and completing homework and quizzes).

Biology Tutoring review by Alexandra in St. Louis, MO
The student and I reviewed the material dealing with genetic inheritance (autosomal dominant/recessive) and dihybrid Punnet squares. Additionally, he asked for help remembering details about meiosis vs. mitosis, so we reviewed the two before starting a cumulative quiz with his online material. He did excellent on the quiz.
