I attended Johns Hopkins for my undergraduate studies and went on to complete a Masters in medical science at Boston University School of Medicine. I am currently taking a gap year to apply to medical schools and am interested in helping students master the natural sciences, as well as prepare for standardized tests. Being tutored and tutoring has always been a large part of my academic career and I have found it is often an integral part of truly mastering a topic. My tutoring approach takes a hands-on style that lets students work through problems with assistance first, and then on their own. This style allows the student to become confident in his/her knowledge of the material and face new problems with that same confidence. Each student is different and I do my best to quickly learn what works best for their learning style, and cater to that specific style. Outside of academia I currently work as a medical consultant and enjoy swimming and aviation.

Q & A

What is your teaching philosophy?

My tutoring approach takes a hands-on style that lets students work through problems with assistance first, and then on their own. This style allows the student to become confident in his/her knowledge of the material and face new problems with that same confidence. Each student is different, and I do my best to quickly learn what works best for their learning style, and cater to that specific style.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

Preparation and communication with the student is key even before meeting for the first time. During a first session I would try and pinpoint the student’s strengths and weaknesses, and focus on high yield weaknesses.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

Independent learning is all about what works best for a particular student. After a learning style has been pinpointed, any student can become an independent learner with the appropriate motivation.
