The student and I worked on her spelling words and using them in sentences. We also worked on coin identification and skip counting of coins. She was able to skip count coins with little trouble, she was even able to recognize that 5 dimes equal 50 cents without counting. This was a big improvement from when she started.

The student and I spent the bulk of today's session reading aloud. First we read a book that she chose, a Dr. Seuss story, and then we read a book that she brought back from school. I'm trying to brainstorm ways to make reading more fun for her. Today we compromised by alternating lines-- she would read two lines, and then I would read two lines. At the end of the session we finished up the math homework that we started yesterday.

Excellent session! The student was upbeat and positive! We worked on homework: writing and answering questions about Urban Park Ranger. He completed one page of Daily Language and we worked on long vowel and short vowel sounds.

We began with the student completing her required daily 15 minutes of reading, and we read from a book entitled "The Seven Treasure Hunts". After completing her reading assignment, I had her draw three images described in the chapter we'd read, to allow her an enjoyable activity that allowed her to use her imagination. Next, we practiced math by her completing an online math quiz for second graders, consisting of ten addition and subtraction problems. Then lastly, she played simple addition games to give her practice adding each column of the vertical addition problems.

The student was a delight in today's session. She was able to explain to me some of the math problems she is covering in class. I was able to get an idea of where she is currently achieving in math and areas to work on further. She was able to add double digit numbers and solve basic word problems. We discussed reading strategies of before, during, and after reading and how she currently uses those strategies while reading. This session went well, I do not have any concerns. She was very attentive and eager to complete the tasks given to her.

The student and I reviewed one of his FRQ's, which was quite good and ready to be turned in. We then reviewed his Human Geo vocab terms for his upcoming quiz. He did not seem to remember much information about the many similar urban land use models in this unit. We reviewed each model in detail, highlighting similarities and differences. I quizzed him on the models and he needs to spend additional time studying them. We also reviewed double replacement reactions and walked through a number of practice problems for Chemistry.
