This time the student did an entire English section and discussed it afterwards. He did great on the first two passages. I assigned him another English section for homework and instructed him to complete it.

The student and I edited his practice essay. Particularly, we worked on previewing the paper in the introduction, restating the topic to show that you understand the prompt, and focusing examples to fit the prompt.

The student and I covered trigonometric identities today. We did several problems from the book ranging from verifying these formulas to applying them in different situations. We then discussed some properties of triangles and how it relates to the trigonometric identities. He seems to understand what it takes to develop confidence in his abilities to solve these problems.

Tutoring review by Marlene in Fountain Valley, CA
We are continuing our math review, and have now completed our review of algebra. The student does very well in this area, as this is what she is currently studying in school. The quantitative comparisons are a bit more difficult for her, but it seems that she is getting the hang of them. We will continue to practice them, as she will need them in order to complete more of the questions during the allotted time. We practiced a lot of vocabulary today, especially sentence completions. We also completed a number of reading comprehension passages. This is also a strong area for her.

Tutoring review by Rebekah in Fountain Valley, CA
The student and I focused on essays during this session. She came with specific questions, and we brainstormed possible answers to help her grasp the concepts related to organization of issue prompts. I will prepare additional tips before our next session. The student seemed to grasp the concepts well, though she will continue to practice on her own to test her understanding. Again, the time constraints of the test are likely here biggest challenge. The student will take one or more practice tests before our next session.

Tutoring review by Nathan in Fountain Valley, CA
Met for the first time and while she had a lot of questions over a variety of topics, it seemed to me the best place to start was at the beginning, so we went back to the introduction of integrals. We went through Riemann sums and finding the strict definition and deriving the idea behind calculating them.  She seemed to gain a lot of understanding from this, and we ended around the fundamental theorem of calculus.
