Session Summaries by Statistics Tutors

Statistics Tutoring review by Tienlong in Atlanta, GA
We covered the basics of scatter plots and descriptive statistics today, focusing on fundamental measurements of central tendency and variance. From there, we moved into talking about normal distribution and z-scores, with a focus on how to get them easily on excel. A persistent topic throughout the entire section was what the subject material meant and how to use excel to get answers quickly once figured out.

In addition we made sure that the overall design of the experiments in each case were correct and correctly applied the techniques learned during the class.

Statistics Tutoring review by Paul in Atlanta, GA
The student had some work on sine, cosine and tangent functions for an assessment on Friday. I made sure to see if he was able to do the work on his own and tried to provide as little guidance as possible. He was setting up the problems on his own and, the only issue I needed to stress to him, was to make sure to round his answers correctly, according to the language in the question. We also worked on angles of elevation and depression and, he also had no trouble setting up and solving those problems. Finally, we worked on identifying special parallelograms in the coordinate plane, using the parallelogram's diagonals. I broke it down to him that it is a two-step process: use the slope formula to see if the diagonals are perpendicular (rhombus), and use the distance formula to see if they are equal (rectangle; if both rhombus and rectangle then it is a square as well).

The student and I reviewed some of his unit on two-sample significance testing and began looking ahead at the next unit on the chi-square distribution. The two-sample material went pretty well, but the student struggled with the chi-square material. Fortunately, we will be able to revisit those concepts over the weekend, still before his class reaches it.
