I was really lucky all the way through college that I really had good teachers at all levels. When I got to graduate school, I had my first experience with teachers who weren't very passionate about teaching and it was the first time I struggled with the material. It helped me see how important quality teaching had been to my academic success, and it also helped me see what makes a good teacher, good. This sparked my interest in not just how to teach, but how do students learn? I've been tutoring and teaching ever since and I'm always looking for new ways to reach students and to make the material spark interest.I earned my Bachelor's in Chemistry at Illinois Wesleyan University and went on to a PhD in Organic Chemistry at UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas. I tutor in most STEM courses including geometry, algebra and pre-calc and chemistry, physics and biology. I tailor my tutoring sessions to the student and focus on a problem-solving approach.

10th Grade Math Tutor • +63 Subjects

I received an undergraduate degree in Physics and a minor in Spanish from Lawrence University, WI where I built up a lot of tutoring experience in many math subjects. This includes working with students who do not feel they have a 'math brain' or are insecure about their math abilities. I am currently tutoring Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Arithmetic, Elementary Math, Geometry, Middle School Math, and Pre-Algebra, in addition to introductory Spanish levels and general homework help. I have experience specifically working with students that have trouble focusing and have worked with children with ADHD though I am not specially licensed for working with children with learning disabilities. Math is obviously my favorite subject to tutor because I love finding new ways to explain concepts I am already so familiar with and use on a regular basis, as I am currently working on a graduate degree in Engineering at Washington University in St. Louis. My teaching approach with students is very similar to the approach I use with myself when I am struggling to learn a new concept. I try presenting the concept in a new way, or going back to what the student (or myself) knows and working my way up. Besides math, I also love food, cooking, and learning new recipes!

I graduated with a B.S. in Earth and Space Sciences from the University of Washington this last summer.Science has always been my favorite subject in school, and I loved getting to use my hands to conduct experiments. I love discovering how things work, and it makes me appreciate the world that I live in that much more. Last year I volunteered at Nova High School helping out with a biology class as well as tutoring math on occasion. I even got to plan and teach my own lesson on mass extinctions taking what I learned from observing the teacher teach over the last couple months and implementing my own style as well.My volunteer experience is a continuation of my four years at the Woodland Park Zoo. I taught visitors about the various animals on exhibit and about conservation. I worked there throughout high school, and through it got to learn how fun teaching could be. On a typical day I would talk with hundreds of people of all different ages, backgrounds, and interests. I learned to be flexible in my teaching strategies, shifting focus and tailoring my talk for each group that I got to talk to. I got to make learning fun and exciting. I loved the look on a kid’s face when they learned something new.Later throughout my undergrad I got several other opportunities in education as an interpreter at the Burke Museum and as a TAA for the ESS Department at the University of Washington. I had lots of fun working with the Burke Museum, and as a TAA and am looking forward to working with more students in the future.

I am currently in my fourth year of medical school at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center. Learning science is my passion, but I also enjoy running, trying new food, and reading classic books. I would love to be part of your journey by helping you love mastering the task at hand. No doubt, you will see your best results once you have learned to enjoy the grind of becoming an expert of the material placed before you. Together, we can learn to enjoy the process as well as enjoy the results you will achieve. Whether you are working through upper-level science courses to complete a pre-med degree, taking the MCAT before applying to medical school, or studying for the USMLE Step 1 or 2 exams to get into the residency of your dreams, I can help you achieve your goal. With whatever content we are mastering together, we will work to be as organized and planned as possible. "Those who fail to plan, plan to fail!"

Hi! I am an enthusiastic, hard working sophomore at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, MI. I am studying Biomedical Engineering and aspire to become an oral surgeon. In my free time, you will find me at the gym, running, playing basketball, and lifting weights. I believe exercise to be a fantastic stress reliever and motivator. I have over 250 hours of tutoring experience and am excited to tutor students with their homework or with test preparation. I recognize education is the gateway to a better living, so rest assured, I will make every effort to teach students the concepts, so they can apply their knowledge to unique situations. In a world of increasing automation, it is critical students are versatile and can adapt to new situations on the fly. To that end, I will teach them how to solve a problem rather than state the solution to the problem. Often times, students use my guidance to arrive at the solution themselves. This gives students confidence and sharpens their understanding. I will also motivate my students whenever necessary to keep them excited about learning Chemistry or Calculus. Some concepts can be tedious to learn, so it is important to never lose sight of its real world application. I look forward to tutoring my students and helping them reach the next level! Please feel free to reach out!

I'm currently a Civil Engineering Senior at the University of Georgia:) I love working with young minds and teaching them the ins and outs of the college application process, AP classes, or even just general classes. I'm a very energetic person who loves to talk but also loves to hear about my students and what they have going on in life.In my senior year of high school, I applied to 36 colleges and got accepted into 27 of them, also receiving large financial packages for many of those schools (University of Virginia, Louisiana State University, JSU, Georgia Tech, Florida Tech, Illinois Tech, etc.). I can guide students on how to write an amazing college essay for major schools or even help out with CommonApp essays. I also have a strong background in AP classes and math courses, so I'm very passionate about teaching/mentoring in those courses.Ask me anything and I will happily give you advice and an honest answer:)
