SAT Math Tutoring review by Roy in Dayton, OH
During this session we started with a warmup exercise that combines many of the concepts that SAT Math questions could contain. We then reviewed the student's strategies and answers to the practice questions I had sent her. We discussed how to simplify geometric diagrams to see the relationships between the shapes. Then we looked at how isolating variables in the equations for those shapes allows us to convert the problem into algebra. It is then very simple to solve for the solution. I will send her an additional set of practice problems to work on for our next session.

SAT Math Tutoring review by Sam in Dayton, OH
The student worked really hard! She was willing to do extra work past our session time and really impressed me. I know she's going to do well because of how hard she's been working. She has been finishing math sections with plenty of time left over to think about the harder problems and check her answers. She should feel confident that she knows exactly what she's doing when it comes to the math sections! We focused on being careful and suspicious of the test on every question. It's easy to make a mistake, but she rarely does because she is careful and is in the habit of making sure everything she does makes sense. When she gets to a hard problem, it's important to take a deep breath and try a few things out. If it can't be solved quickly on the first run-through, skip it and come back later. The student is going to do some practice on her own. She'll experiment with the technique of "plugging it in" which can be useful as a last-ditch effort when one is stuck on a problem. In addition, she'll complete each problem being very focused and careful in order to avoid simple mistakes.

SAT Math Tutoring review by Neehad in Dayton, OH
Yesterday's session was very straightforward, with the student working on a couple of sections. The concern of him being able to readily form equations from a problem still lingers on, with slight improvements. He has most of the topics covered and understands them well. If the reluctance is overcome, his potential score will be incredibly higher.

SAT Math Tutoring review by Vickrant in Dayton, OH
The student and I covered various topics in SAT math. First we went over a difficult problem that he was having trouble with and solved this algebra question. Next we dove into some open ended questions and covered some strategies for sequencing and permutation/ combination problems. We also covered a little bit of geometry during our time together. He is a good student who sometimes is too confident in his first choice and is susceptible to trick questions, even though he is able to solve them after being told that it is a trick question. Overall I think he has room for growth and can do very well on his SAT math section as long as he is focused.

We covered more of the math section by going through different example problems online. We specifically covered more exponent rules and some other small crash courses on generic problems. We will continue more practice on future dates.

SAT Math Tutoring review by Philip in Dayton, OH
The student and I went spent the day reviewing different math concepts that he might encounter on the SAT. He already has a pretty good foundation to work with, so it was mostly a matter of explaining the logic and methodology underlying the different types of problems. He appeared to struggle in particular with some of the more complicated geometry questions and with word problems that require you to write out equations based on text. These are pretty normal things to struggle with, and his understanding of formulas and algebra are strong enough that if he's able to frame the questions correctly he will do well on the SAT. To that end we spent most of our time working on general strategies for dealing with problems like finding the space filled in between two shapes. At the end of the session he appeared to have a more comfortable grasp of the concepts we covered. I will send him a 20 question assignment today for him to complete. Once he finished that I will email him my comments.
