I was never a straight A student, in fact, I struggled to get B's. It was never a problem with the content I was learning but the context in which that material was presented. After learning about the many different learning profiles that exist in the classroom I realized that students like myself were being left out to dry. I decided three years into my first college experience that I wanted to become an educator. Transferring to Wright State University and enrolling in their Teacher Preparation program is undoubtedly the best decision I have ever made. This upcoming fall I will be working in the Dayton Public School district to help students who, like myself, who struggle with "playing school."Outside of teaching, I enjoy reading science-fiction and taking hikes at the many metro parks in the South Dayton area. I occasionally work at a locally owned running store on the weekends and even do some coaching in the fall and spring. I have spent most of my life in Dayton but also moved around a lot as my father was in the military. I hope to move and teach in Philadelphia some day in the future but for now, my focus is on revitalizing the school system in Dayton.

After law school, I returned to my love of mathematics, earned a bachelors degree in Mathematics & Secondary Mathematics Education, and later went on to earn a Master's Level endorsement in Secondary Mathematics Education as well.My tutoring style involves encouraging students to share their questions, fears, and concerns about the problems they are encountering with their math in an approachable, relaxed, and sometimes even entertaining environment and keeping them engaged throughout the learning process. Using a series of leading questions, I like to draw them into the problem-solving process, enabling them to arrive at the solutions largely on their own. This has an invaluable impact upon bolstering their confidence in the subject matter as well as themselves. I found that I really enjoyed sharing what I had learned, helping a student see something from a different perspective or finally grasp a concept that they had struggled with.After I graduated with a degree in Electrical Engineering, I began a career in the US Air Force, first working for the Air Force Research Lab, and then working for the National Air and Space Intelligence Center as a scientific and technical intelligence analyst. I have continued to seek opportunities to teach, and to share what I know, with junior employees, with my nieces and nephews and with my own children.I enjoy teaching language, science, and preparing students for standardized testing, but I think I'm most passionate about teaching math because I believe learning math is helpful in developing brain function, in the same way that going to the gym is helpful to developing physical fitness.
