The student and I worked on delta-epsilon proofs of limits using both an example from his classwork and more practice problems that I provided. We also went over the idea of limits, the beginning of the limit definition of derivative, and how to evaluate limits of trigonometric functions.

Tutoring review by Chantal in Casstown, OH
The student worked on algebra, solving algebraic equations with fractions, using the Box method to solve an equation, solving and graphing inequalities included on a number line, and solving algebraic equations that involve currency. She also worked on her Social Studies about the judicial system. She had to define terms such as bailiff, defense attorney, prosecuting attorney, jury, witness, trial, plaintiff, and objection. She also had to use each term in a sentence and draw a picture to support her definitions. Excellent session.

Tutoring review by Maggie in Casstown, OH
The student started a new section on inverse trigonometric functions. She understands how to find inverse trigonometric values and how to use right triangles to find the values of composite trigonometric functions. The most challenging aspect of this section is using the domains and ranges of inverse trigonometric functions to determine appropriate quadrants in which to work. If she keeps these properties in mind, she can complete these problems correctly.

We did add and subtract rational expressions questions and solved rational equations questions. The student had a little problem with multiplying LCD properly. More practice will help. We tried to make up what she had missed during the holiday. Finally, I felt that she started to understand the how to graph rational functions. She will have chapter test on Monday. She needs to take some time to practice during weekend.

Tutoring review by Jean in Casstown, OH
We covered how to do a "reverse" distribution where we start with two terms that are added or subtracted and turn them into two terms that will be multiplied. This was good preparation for understanding how to factor out trinomials in the future. I showed the student a trick by having her factor out each of the terms in a factor tree, find the greatest common factor, and use that to help her determine what ends up getting distributed against the GCF. This solidified her understanding of why it is we can distribute and factor binomials. Then, we covered all the scenarios of the FOIL method: distributing negative terms, adding negative terms, and combining exponents. She is learning well so far, and I'm happy to see her work hard.
