Tutoring review by Ivan in Arcanum, OH
Tonight the student and I worked on a few more inverse trig identity rules involved in integration and differentiation. We started off with a few problems on specific functions whose derivatives lead to an inverse trig function, and working on the u-substitutions involved, which he understood very well. We continued on to derivatives of inverse functions, and we approached the implicit differentiation method. He had trouble with it at first, but quickly noticed how the concept works, and felt very comfortable with it. We finished our session with definite integrals using inverse trig identities, which helped him review the methods for solving inverse trig functions using triangles and the unit circle. He has a quiz on Friday which he seemed very confident about. Good luck to him!

Student 1 and I went over his homework and prepared for his test tomorrow, which is on multiplying by numbers with digits in the hundreds and thousands. After a few problems, he seemed to understand the order of how this is done. What he had trouble with, however, was his multiplication tables, specifically the ones with numbers 6 and higher. I think that this is an important area that we need to spend more time with, and I will work with him on that in our next session. Student 2 and I worked on basic algebraic problems that he had as homework for his class. He seemed to get a hang of it after a few problems. We ended the session with long division once again, and I am proud to say that after a few sessions working on this, he seems to have a good understanding of it. I gave him a difficult problem to work out on his own, and he completed it.

The student and I reviewed for her upcoming test related to molarity. We discussed finding molarity based on the known amount of mole of solute and the volume of solution, converting between different units (mainly main unit and milli-), calculating mass using mole and molar mass and vice versa, determining the mass percentage of a compound or an element in a solution containing it, and applying molarity calculations to find the chemical formula of an unknown compound. She understood how to use the molarity formula, but she was still a bit hesitating when facing a big stoichiometry problem which required multiple calculation steps. We will practice more in the future sessions.
