Tutoring review by Kathleen in Spring Valley, OH
The student and I began by checking her math homework. She had made many mistakes, and I asked her why. She can do the problems correctly when I'm there so my guess is that she's rushing through her homework. We spent some time understanding the ideas behind the homework; specifically looking at building fractions from measurements. After that we went through her subtraction flash cards and then reviewed her spelling. We finished up with a timed test of mixed addition and subtraction. She decreased her time by 2 minutes!!

The student is actually great at Calculus. The equations are pretty abstract and difficult to apply to real world situations. She has all the tools required to do the problems.

The student and I continued to work on physics this morning. He is really starting to master the equations for velocity and acceleration. He's also getting stronger every time we work in terms of being able to handle unit conversions. I believe that he will be in an excellent position to start his physics class next week. We also started to work on force equations, which he also picked up fairly quickly. We reviewed Newton's laws of motion, which he not only is able to recite, but is beginning to fully understand their meaning.

Tutoring review by Eric in Spring Valley, OH
We discussed optimization of a function. This required finding two equations for the given information that could be used to find the max or min of volume, area, etc. The challenge for the student was get the two equations from the given info and using them correctly. We worked through identifying the needed equations from the given and the appropriate steps to find the min or max value. He could solve the problems, find the derivative, set equal to zero and solve for one variable, once the initial equations were found.
