"Last session the student had questions on using the slope equation. Today I reviewed and retaught the slope formula, explaining the theory and logic and brought example problems to work through. She reviewed and practiced finding the slope using the formula and has a good understanding of how to apply the equation. She did well and was able to find the slope using the slope equation and also by plotting the points on a graph. She was able to complete her homework assignment on slopes with ease. She requested I provide her with additional materials on the following concepts, area and perimeter of similar figures and volume and surface area. I plan to bring these for the next session and will continue to reinforce the areas she needs help with. She is doing a great job. "

"The student and I spent the majority of the time working on transformations. It is such a random section in algebra that it was difficult to grasp what kind of transformations occur based on the function that was given. But by the end she was able to understand everything. And after reviewing more on her own and from completing the worksheets in class, I believe she will do well. We also did some more review on standard form equations and slope intercept form equations. She briefly forgot standard form, but when she did a couple, it came back to her. Overall, she's a great student to work with and a hard worker."

"We covered linear algebraic equations. We went over normal 1 step equations as well as multi step equations. She was having trouble with problems that involved fractions. I broke down, step by step, how to do these problems until she voiced she understood how to solve the problems."

"Today, the student and I met to review Chapters 3 and 4 in her textbook for an upcoming exam. After quickly going over the calculation of a line's slope and the relationships between angles surrounding parallel lines and a transversal, we focused predominantly on labeling triangles and congruency proofs. While she struggled initially to distinguish isosceles from scalene and acute from obtuse, it got easier for her when I reminded her that there are two sets of ways to categorize triangles: by their angles or by their sides. With that clarified, we moved to Side-Side-Side proofs. The structure of a proof was something that she had been having trouble with, so we worked through them step by step, again and again until she could look at a new problem and immediately see what end she needed to prove and what criteria that consisted of, then spring into action from there."

"The student is on chapter 11, which is differential equations. We went over lessons 11.1, 11.2, and 11.3. The topics include showing an equation is a solution to a differential equation, slope fields, and Euler's Method to approximate y. I helped her finish the homework on 11.1, and she started the homework for 11.2 and 11.3."

"Tonight, we went over simplifying rational expressions, including expressions that are being multiplied/divided as well as added/subtracted. The student did well towards the end, showing significant understanding even when we went over some of the more challenging ones. He remained positive throughout the entire session. I left him with extra review practice, and we will continue working on this content until his teacher introduces a new section."

"We reviewed the chapter 5 practice test. I also gave the student 10 practice problems and timed him, allowing for two minutes per problem and three minutes to review his work. He was able to complete 9/10 of the problems with 5 minutes to spare. He did not complete the last problem because he misread it, though he was able to catch the error himself when we reviewed the problems. I gave him the following test tips and recommendations: 1. Do the easy problems first. 2. Check the hard problems first and use all of your time. 3. Use a timer and give yourself at least 10 minutes to check your work. 4. Use visual reminder like a ribbon or rubber band around your wrist to remind you to focus when you are losing focus. 5. Read the directions thoroughly to avoid mixing up GCF and LCM."

"Statistics - I brought the student some practice problems to help prepare her for her test. We worked through some of them. I took one problem and worked it out so that she could see how to get the mean, median, range, lower quartile and upper quartile. "

"The student is learning context clues. We reviewed the comprehension passage "Bruce and the Spider." Using reading strategies such as self-monitoring, comprehension, summarization, character, plot, and setting. The student read and answered questions about the story. He showed improvement and understanding of the lesson being taught including context clues and independently understood the meaning of words while reading. He explained the process of how he reached the conclusion. This was a big accomplishment!"

"We completed a review of the student's homework on the point-slope form of linear equations. He appeared to be quite comfortable working the problems and should be well-prepared for his upcoming test on the subject. We also did some review on the standard and slope-intercept forms. The student is also gaining confidence in performing operations with integers, which is encouraging. We worked together on solving two-step equations, which is the next topic I am hoping to get him comfortable with. "

"Today we discussed geometric series. We talked about how to find the first term, our common factor, and the index n. Using this information we discussed finding the nth term of a sequence and the sum of both finite and infinite sequences. We learned about sigma notation and finding the common factor given two values within the sequence. Finally we discussed how to check finite sums by manually adding all terms up to the given index to verify our formulaic results. The student seems to have a firm grasp on the material and I am looking forward to good grades on her next test. "
