Session Summaries by Languages Tutors

Languages Tutoring review by Roshan in Dayton, OH
We discussed places we traveled to and talked about differences in cultures completely in French. The student has continued to show great improvement with the use of connecting terms and overall conjugation. In order to enhance his listening skills, I spoke as he asked me questions in French.

Languages Tutoring review by Alyson in Dayton, OH
Today we talked about our weekends and shared stories - all in French. We also watched a video of the trailer for Bienvenue chez les Chtis, and we talked about the accent in the north of France and how it was real! We talked about how we could make our future sessions more relevant to her time coming up in Paris and decided it would be great to do some recipes together and even go out for some shopping or to have a drink. Going out for some natural conversation, she agreed, would be a great way to round out her vocabulary and let her get more and more comfortable with speaking French without hesitation - even if it's not perfect yet!

We went straight into review. We finished review of present and passe compose in the ten target verbs from last year. Then we had some time left over so we started review of the imparfait. I gave the student another writing assignment for the weekend, to take the role of a French journalist and write a little report in French about a current US phenomenon.

Languages Tutoring review by Jessica in Dayton, OH
The student and I talked about his French 1 class and what they have been going over recently. We spent a good amount of time on new verbs. He did really, really well with this. He still has not made note cards as I have recommended before, so I requested that he do so soon since he will have more and more vocabulary words to be memorizing in the near future. I had him spell several words in French, and although he had a shaky start, he did really, really well! I am very impressed with how far he has come. He picks up rather quickly with language, and is moving along well with our tutoring. For our next session next week, we will go over verbs as usual, household objects, body parts, and possibly how to ask a question in French.

Languages Tutoring review by Sammy in Dayton, OH
On our last session, I reviewed the student's homework. She did very well! She described her youngest sister using the verb to be and the infinitive form even though we have not gone through it yet. I asked her to write 5 simple sentences describing people and things, she wrote 10 sentences within 5 minutes, which was impressive! She had little mistakes on adding the S for words in plural and a couple of misspelled words that we corrected. Afterwards, we went through the masculine and the feminine adjectives in French as this is essential when describing. Overall, she did great. Finally, I left her with a homework. I asked her to write ten sentences using masculine and feminine adjectives.

Languages Tutoring review by John in Dayton, OH
We covered Easy French Step-by-Step by Myrna Bell Rochester. Specifically, we covered: definite articles, indefinite articles, and conjugation of the verb etre. Next lesson will continue with the above-mentioned textbook, concentrating on expressions used with the verb etre. We focused on pronunciation and writing phrases using the verb etre. Strategy: Work on the masculine versus feminine nouns in sentences using the verb etre - ex. Il est intelligent, versus Elle est intelligente - master both writing and pronunciation. Strategy: Work on plural masculine and plural feminine nouns in sentences using the verb etre: ex. Ils sont intelligents, versus Elles sont intelligentes - master both writing and pronunciation. If the student continues to work with me as his instructor, he will be more than ready to leave for his journey in April. He is a pleasure to work with, and his background with Spanish is helping him with the grammar.
