Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I went over her test review packet for unit 6 over distance, midpoint, quadrilaterals, and more pre-geometry. She got her quiz back for unit 6 from the past week and she received a 92!"
"The student and I went over her material before her test. She did very well and should have been very well prepared for her test."
"The student spent the first hour of this tutoring session working on a two-page, 27 questions, Algebra practice worksheet. The topic that was covered on this specific worksheet: "Quadratic Graphs and Their Properties." He is comprehending the material well. He told me that he is getting 80% plus scores on his tests in his Algebra class. The last half hour was spent editing a first draft of a paper for his English literature class. We reviewed the paper together correcting grammar errors and focused on the teacher's comments that were written on this first draft. I informed the student that adding examples from the text (dialogue, stage directions, etc.) -- to support his ideas and conclusions -- would make for a better English paper. As always, he was focused and on task during the tutoring session. He is very easy to work with and our tutoring lessons are always very productive."
"We worked on functions and non functions. We also worked on using the vertical line test. We then worked on functions of functions. The student's ability to grasp these topics has built his confidence and allowed him to take on a very complicated topic."
"In preparation for the student's test on Friday, we went over a study guide that covered all the concepts of the previous unit: functions. She struggled most with determining the independent and dependent quantities/ values in an equation. I gave her tips on how to remember which is which by relating it to the independent and dependent variables in science (which she said she understood easier)."
"I reviewed basic integer operations with the student as well as writing number as rational numbers in the form a/b where b is NOT = to 0. When completing the questions with the tutor she is able to accurately answer orally 75-80%. This accuracy usually declines when worked on her own and timed. I have spoken with her about slowing her pace and checking her work as she goes. When looking back after she has completed the work she is able to explain how to get the answer correct."
