I am a medical student currently attending the 6 year BA/MD program at UMKC. My interest in both the sciences and the humanities has led me to pursue a career in medicine. My favorite subjects to learn and teach include English reading and writing, Mandarin, math, and biology. I am especially passionate about teaching English reading and writing because as someone who personally went through the process of learning English from scratch, I deeply understand the challenges involved in honing one's language skills. I hope to use the lessons I have learned from my experience to help others who are working on improving their reading and writing skills, no matter how far they are along the process. I am patient, persistent, supportive, receptive to feedback, and I always strive to adapt my tutoring style to work with each student's unique needs and expectations.

I'm focused on getting more research (and life) experience.
I am not busy. It allows me to explore my creative side and I get lost in the musical world. In addition, I also like to run. Running lets me organize my day and let out some stress
I am currently a student at the University of Kansas working towards gaining a Bachelor of Science degree in Behavioral Neuroscience as well as a minor in Spanish. I am involved in a variety of research in the applied behavioral science field on campus, and with the rest of my time, I like to volunteer. I am also in the process of becoming an Undergraduate Teaching Assistant in Physics. I get the opportunity to tutor some of my friends and classmates in the classes we are enrolled in together as well as those I have already taken. I enjoy being in school and I want other students to feel the same way.
I am confident that I can share some of my expertise.
I am a third-year medical student at the University of Kansas School of Medicine. I graduated from the University of Kansas in three years with a Bachelor of Science degree in Behavioral Neuroscience and minors in psychology and Spanish. Before starting medical school, I worked as a medical assistant and a tutor for the KU Athletic Department. Throughout my undergraduate experience, I worked with students extensively as a peer tutor, undergraduate teaching assistant, and seminar assistant. Tutoring has always been a passion of mine as I love to help others by way of education. I work hard with students to establish a friendship that allows for a comfortable dynamic conducive to learning and asking questions. I also utilize a variety of resources in order to keep students engaged and frequently ask questions to assess their learning level. I recognize the importance of working with students to better understand their learning styles and studying methods in order to create individualized tutoring plans that maximize growth in the classroom as well as outside of the classroom. I aim to help students develop valuable habits and skills that will bring success that lasts beyond our tutoring sessions. I feel comfortable modifying my approach when working with different ages, although I have found that many aspects of my teaching strategy remain constant among all my students. I tutor many classes ranging from algebra to statistics, but my favorite courses to teach are related to psychology!
I am grateful that my career has allowed me the opportunity to be that positive influence on children's lives.
I am a recent graduate of the University of Missouri with a degree in Spanish. In the future, I plan on getting certified in ESL and working towards a teaching certificate. Ever since I took my first Spanish class in the seventh grade, I have been in love with the language and all the different cultures it is a part of. I am very passionate about the importance of Spanish in America today, as well as helping Hispanic families learn English, while not forsaking their native language.
I am a graduate of The University of Tulsa, where I received BA degrees in Anthropology and Sociology. While studying at Tulsa, I tutored students in several subjects including, Sociology, Anthropology, and Statistics, among others. In addition, I occasionally served as a guest lecturer at the University's introductory-level Sociology courses. I offer tutoring in SAT/ACT test prep, English, Anthropology, Sociology, and Social Studies. I enjoy most working with students on writing and revising essays in any subject. When I'm tutoring, I think it is most important to talk through issues with my students and try to ascertain how they're thinking about the problems they're trying to solve. If you're thinking about the fundamentals of a problem in the correct way, any other details will fall into place fairly easily.
I am working towards completing a computer engineering major.

Frequently Asked Questions
Varsity Tutors connects students across Overland Park's 44 schools and serves learners at all grade levels. With over 18,000 students in the Overland Park area, we work with families throughout the community who are looking for personalized 1-on-1 instruction to complement their school experience.
Students in Overland Park seek tutoring across a wide range of subjects, with math and reading comprehension being the most common areas. We also support students preparing for standardized tests, working through advanced coursework like AP and honors classes, and developing study skills that help them succeed in Kansas schools.
Personalized tutoring fills gaps in understanding and builds confidence in areas where students may be falling behind Kansas curriculum expectations. Expert tutors work with students on the specific concepts they're struggling with, allowing them to keep pace with their grade-level standards while getting the individualized attention that classroom settings—even with Overland Park's solid 14.2:1 student-teacher ratio—can't always provide.
The first session is a chance for the tutor and student to get to know each other and identify specific learning goals. The tutor will assess where the student stands academically, understand their learning style, and create a personalized plan tailored to their needs—whether that's catching up in a subject, preparing for a test, or getting ahead in advanced coursework.
Absolutely. Tutoring works best when it complements what students are learning in their Overland Park school. Tutors can reinforce concepts from class, help with homework, prepare for upcoming tests, or dive deeper into topics the student finds challenging—all while staying aligned with their teacher's lessons and the school's curriculum.
When students fall behind, personalized 1-on-1 instruction can make a significant difference by targeting exactly what they're struggling with. Rather than trying to keep up in a classroom setting, tutoring gives students the time and focused attention to fill knowledge gaps, build confidence, and catch up to grade-level expectations at their own pace.
Yes. Tutoring isn't just for students who are struggling—it's also valuable for advanced learners in Overland Park who want to challenge themselves further. Tutors can help gifted students explore advanced topics, prepare for competitive exams, develop critical thinking skills, or move ahead in subjects where they're excelling.
