How can Pre-Calculus tutoring help you?

You may wonder why you are learning precalculus. Do trigonometry, polynomials, exponentials, and parabolas have anything to do with the real world? The truth is - yes. The course is a preparation for calculus and other higher forms of math. Calculus is the study of rates of change of one variable compared to another. Whether you're calculating the slope of a curve, computing the maximum or minimum of functions, or analyzing an area inside a curve, these have real applications. Such operations are crucial in scientific fields such as physics and biology; they may be used to figure out how fast a bacteria colony is growing. The topics you learn combine with statistics and probability when analyzing social trends. If inverses or absolute values are troubling now, it won't do any good later if you may not understand these. Find an expert precalculus tutor in Buffalo, NY, today by contacting Varsity Tutors' educational directors.

First, the directors may go over what you are learning, your goals, and mathematical struggles. They'll then connect you with the most suitable tutor. The private instructor may assess your proficiency to develop custom tailored lesson plans, focusing on the topics you need to work on most. Since your tutor has learned these already, or perhaps struggled themselves, they understand the various methods and tips of acquiring precalculus proficiency.

Session Summaries by Pre-Calculus Tutors

Pre-Calculus Tutoring review by Stephen in Buffalo, NY
The student and I started with limit problems today. She generally knows how to do these. We then looked at rational functions in her chapter review packet. She needs to review and make sure she has a full understanding of the components of a rational function. We finished with a couple of problems where she had to derive and graph rational functions in order to test all these concepts in one place. She can get started on these but needed guidance to get all the way through and should study how to find and use the important characteristics of rational functions. I recommend that she especially look at problems asking her to graph rational functions before she takes the chapter test.

Pre-Calculus Tutoring review by Noah in Buffalo, NY
Since our previous session, the student had been going over a lot of new material. From the documents she showed me, she seems to have done well with very few issues. In our session, she and I worked on rational functions and how to work those problems, in addition to reviewing average slope over an interval problems. In addition, she was able to look at a function that was a combination of different types (linear and absolute value) and graph the function. After looking at the points, she was able to identify some of the characteristics and explain why each part was how it was. She didn't have specific troubles with any problems, but she is still less confident when using a graphing calculator to set the windows to find stuff. However, I know she can do it, as she was able to demonstrate this when we worked on a problem from her test that she initially got wrong. She is a great student, and she seems to have plenty of problems that her teacher gave her to practice the methods and be prepared for the final exam.

Pre-Calculus Tutoring review by Zachary in Buffalo, NY
We worked on more parent function transformations, word problems, completing the square, how to construct a polynomial given only the roots, and asymptote behavior. No progress to report. The student doesn't seem to struggle with anything long. I gave her more word problems to work on.

Pre-Calculus Tutoring review by Cedric in Buffalo, NY
The student and I completed a review of solving for exact values with trig functions and negative or positive quadrant limitations without a unit circle or calculator. We conducted a full review of hyperbolas and ellipses with key steps and strategies for identification and graphing the equations. The student was so pleased and excited to see the connections with the concepts. He felt very confident with the material and well prepared for the final exam.

Pre-Calculus Tutoring review by Orval in Buffalo, NY
We covered the exponential and log functions. We graphed the log and exponential functions, then practiced how to evaluate them without calculators. The student has a worksheet and will try to solve problems from it, which I will go over next session.
