I am a graduate cum laude of Clark University, with a CELTA certification in teaching English from Cambridge University. I was born and raised in Queens, attended Hunter College High School in Manhattan, and now live in Brooklyn, so I know the city very well. I have years of experience teaching and tutoring a wide range of subjects and students. My expertise lies in two main areas. Firstly, I teach ESL to adults and teenagers. I have experience both teaching in front of large classrooms and intensive one-on-one tutoring. My students come from all over the world, and I aim to tailor my lessons to their respective needs and interests, while covering the fundamentals of reading, writing, speaking, and listening to English. I always recommend a city-as-classroom approach, where my students immerse themselves in the language both in and out of school.Secondly, I tutor elementary and middle schoolers in English, Math and test preparation. I have experience leading after-school classes as well as one-on-one tutoring at learning centers and private homes. I have had students from all different backgrounds and levels of proficiency, including many children of immigrants. I emphasize study skills and test taking strategies, and love seeing a student's eyes light up when they grasp a concept that had been eluding them.

When I get a tutoree I become invested in their progress and academic success and never have a 'my-way-or-the-high-way' mentality, but am flexible to trying to find new ways of teaching for however a particular student learns. I think this flexibility and dedication to making school work as easy as possible for my students is my strongest attribute as a tutor.I am available to work up to thirty hours per week. Friday through Sunday I would generally be free to tutor at any time; on Mondays, I am available during the day, and on Wednesdays, I am available from mid-afternoon (starting around three) through the evening. I am usually not available on Tuesdays or Thursdays. I would not need to take any month off.

I grew up in a family that valued education, with a mother who is now a retired teacher. I have worked with all age groups in a variety of educational settings since I was a teen. I just love interacting with kids and teens and helping them learn. I have had the pleasure of seeing so many students either get excited over learning something new and having their world open up that much more or having a student finally have the a-ha moment when a difficult topic suddenly makes sense. I look forward to working with you and your family to achieve your learning and education goals.

As an educator with over 10 years of classroom and tutoring experience, I would love the opportunity to help your child reach his/her highest potential. I have a BA in psychology and a MS in Special Education from Monmouth University. In addition, I am recently Orton-Gillingham trained. I have worked with students from Pre-K all of the way through college. My specialty is elementary reading and math, although I am trained and able to go beyond. Although I am an avid reader who believes that reading is the most essential building block in the foundation of learners, my favorite subject to instruct/tutor is math. I enjoy teaching strategies and tricks to help students achieve mastery.Outside of the classroom, I enjoy reading, writing occasionally, creating and finding new recipes to cook, sewing and jogging. I am a wife and mother of 4. I tutor full time from home to meet the demands of my family.

I have been teaching for 7 years. I have taught everything from Pre-K to college. I am a certified teacher in math 5-9, K-6, Reading, ESOL, and ESE. I teach a learning strategies class on a regular basis but I enjoy working with students of all ages. I focused on basic reading skills and phonics in my master's program. However, I am a math and science person at heart!I enjoying teaching people how to learn and helping them find out the way that they learn best. I focus a lot on strategies to help the students learn to be self-sufficient. I think organization and time management is very important. I provide step by step instruction and help the student learn how to break down problems to better tackle it and find the solution. I believe it is important to understand everyone learns differently and I enjoy helping others find the way that they learn best and learn how to use it to be successful.

My teaching experience began in high school, when my dad was a teacher at a weekend Chinese school in Westchester County, New York. I substituted for him while he went to China for a few weeks. The students loved me even though I wasn't that much older than them (they were middle school students). After college I spent a year in Beijing and tutored adults in English and Chinese. In 2007 I taught a GRE class at Baruch College in Manhattan. In 2007 I began working on Wall Street while volunteering after work. Most recently from 2012-2014 I was a volunteer tutor at the Fresh Air Fund in midtown Manhattan, where I worked with inner city middle school students after school on a one-on-one basis (two hour sessions once to twice a week).I love tutoring and I am comfortable tutoring all subjects ranging from Math, English, Foreign Languages (beginner to advanced Mandarin or French, beginner Spanish), Social Studies, History, Science and test-preparation.

After attending Hunter College High School and the Collegiate School, I went on to Middlebury College, where I successfully juggled the rigors of academics and athletics by majoring in History, minoring in English and American Literatures, and playing on the men's basketball team. Since graduating in 2011, I've taught numerous ACT, SAT, AP US History and World History classes, and developed a teaching style that strives to maximize student outcomes. I also consult startups and nonprofits with their digital products, most recently in Lagos, Narobi, Paris, Hong Kong and Shanghai. I spend most of my free time coding web and mobile apps, reading memoirs and short stories, writing comedy sketches, and winning as many fantasy sports leagues as I can enter.
