I am a graduate of Harvard college. I received my degree in neuroscience while I also enjoyed having a minor in energy/environmental studies. Following my graduation, I have predominantly spent my time working with students, whether it be college prep, ACT tutoring, or even general academic assistance. When I am teaching, my favorite subjects are those that are STEM or STEM-adjacent. I find that subjects such as math or science aren't always taught best in large settings, so being able to sit down with a student who is struggling in those regards and help them understand the material fully is a really rewarding thing. I am a firm believer in the value of education and think that one-on-one instruction is one of the best modalities there is in terms of learning potential.

I am a PhD student at UT Southwestern Medical Center. I have received my Master's in Biotechnology at Johns Hopkins University and my Bachelor's in Biochemistry at Southern Methodist University. I've tutored middle school, high school, and college students in math (Algebra I & II, Geometry, Calculus I-II) and science (Biology, Chemistry, Organic Chemistry). I have the most experience with and enjoy teaching Algebra I & II and Chemistry though. I grew up as a athlete myself (figure skater) and so am aware of the strenuous schedule student athletes have and work to be as flexible as I can with my own schedule so that I can accommodate these students.

Organic Chemistry Tutor • +5 Subjects

During high school I found that I really enjoyed chemistry. This pushed me to pursue and obtain multiple degrees in chemistry. I obtained my Bachelor's and Master's degree from the University of Idaho. While I was an undergraduate I was lucky enough to conduct research on the synthesis of new organic molecules for use in pharmaceutical research. During my Master's degree I conducted research for two years on main group and early transition metal polymerization catalysts. The title of my Master's thesis is "Synthesis and Reactivity of Bis(pentamethylcyclopentadienyl)aluminum Complexes". I then moved to the midwest and spent time in Iowa City and Chicago during my Ph.D. studies. I was awarded a Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Chicago and the title of my dissertation is "Understanding Structure/Reactivity Trends in Palladium(II) Polymerization Catalysts containing Heterocyclic Donor Ligands". The time I spent doing my doctoral research allowed me to pursue the love I have for the synthesis of organic molecules and also explore the reactivity of transition metal complexes that incorporate these molecules. I gained a desire to understand how chemistry works on a fundamental, mechanistic level. It is this focus on the details that allows me to look at chemical reactions and help others to understand how they work. I have been a tutor, teaching assistant for both lectures and laboratories, and a professor during my career as a chemist. I tutored students in general chemistry and organic chemistry as an undergraduate. As both a graduate student and professor I taught both organic chemistry lectures and labs and helped students in one-on-one meetings as well as review sessions. I am a tutor for middle school and high school science. I am able to tutor multiple areas of chemistry including high school and college chemistry and organic chemistry. My favorite subject is chemistry with a particular love for organic chemistry. I feel like I was born to put molecules together, especially carbon-carbon bonds, and I think of chemistry as really just molecular Legos that I am fortunate enough to spent my days working with. I love synthesizing new molecules but I am challenged intellectually on a daily basis to find and understand the applications for the chemistry I develop in the areas of industrial green chemistry and clinical chemistry. I believe the work I do has made me a patient person who has learned to explain the chemistry I pursue to a broad audience. This has shaped my teaching philosophy as I have grown more mature in my understanding of the chemical sciences. I am patient and search for multiple explanations of the subject material. I am aware that I am an expert in chemistry but if the person I am helping has not gained a better understanding of chemistry after working with me then I have not been successful. I am hands on with regards to leading by example and showing someone how I would solve a problem. I may not be able to impart the same love I have for chemistry in a particular student but if they see how much I enjoy the material I hope I will inspire them to continue to try and master the subject themselves. I am a big believer in having interests and hobbies outside of my work in chemistry. When I was growing up, I lived in many different places in the United States so I love traveling within the US as well as the world. My travels often inspire new thoughts and solutions for problems I might be encountering at work. By getting away for an issue I find that an answer can appear in my thoughts when I am distracted and not focused on the roadblocks that often appear in my work. I am often accused of "thinking about molecules" when I am supposed to be relaxing if I look distracted. Some of my best ideas have come to me when wondering around a plaza in Mexico or Spain. At home, I enjoy watching Manchester United, riding my bike, running, listening to my very eclectic music collection and gardening when the weather cooperates. I believe I am a very inquisitive person and so I am open to learning new things and going to new places for experiences that I have not had before.

Get to know me professionally: Why are you passionate about helping students? I understand that navigating different forms of coursework can be difficult, especially as you continue to progress in your academic career. I believe that careful consideration should be given to how you study for a particular subject, and I am passionate about helping other students determine the best practice for them so they can strengthen their academic independence. Describe your experience working with students. I spent the latter half of my high school years tutoring my peers in addition to continued mentoring and tutoring in undergrad as well in two specific roles. As an Advisor, I provided mentorship and guidance to first-years throughout the entirety of their inaugural semesters in college and beyond. As a Fellow, I worked in intensive, monthlong programs to tutor, mentor, and prepare incoming freshmen for a collegiate education in STEM fields, though I continued to serve outside of this role during the academic year as well. In addition, I spent about two years teaching Anatomy and Physiology at the collegiate level. Where did you get your education? What degree(s) have you attained? B.A. in Biochemistry and Cell Biology, Rice University, 2017 M.S. in Medical Sciences, University of North Texas Health Science Center, 2019 What degree(s) are you working toward? M.D., University of Texas Rio Grande Valley School of Medicine, 2025 What subjects do you tutor? Mostly STEM-related What is your favorite subject(s) to tutor, and why? I don't have a particular favorite. Different subjects require different academic mindsets and I most enjoy exploring potential approaches and finding success in that process. How would you describe your teaching philosophy and your tutoring style? My personal teaching philosophy and tutoring style revolves around the idea: "You can do hard things!" I am comfortable being as hands-on as you would like and need, but my goal is to help others build academic confidence and independence in their own abilities so that they will be better served in the entirety of their academic careers, not just with the subject in which I am tutoring. I work hard with each student to help not only myself but help them assess their strengths and weaknesses for each subject. My approach is not "one size fits all." Instead, I listen carefully to each student and work with them on reviewing and completing their actual school materials and assignments to help them efficiently develop mastery over a subject. What interests you outside of academia? Both inside and outside of academia, I find myself drawn to experiences and opportunities that expand and challenge my worldview. I am always striving to become a better version of myself and deeply value the benefits of introspection and personal growth.

Whether your student is tackling general science in middle school, preparing for AP exams, or diving into specialized college-level coursework, our expert tutors can provide targeted support tailored to their specific curriculum and learning goals.

Science tutoring addresses the specific gaps in understanding that hold students back. Our expert tutors break down complex concepts into digestible explanations, work through challenging problems step-by-step, and help students build confidence in labs and on exams. With personalized instruction focused on your student's weak areas, they develop deeper mastery of the material and stronger problem-solving skills—both essential for grade improvement.

We work with students at all levels, from those just beginning to explore science in middle school through advanced college coursework and professional exam preparation. Whether your student needs foundational support in core concepts, help advancing to honors or AP-level science, or specialized tutoring for a challenging major, our expert tutors can meet them where they are and help them progress.

Absolutely. Our expert tutors help students prepare for standardized science exams including AP Biology, AP Chemistry, AP Physics, and others, as well as state assessments and college placement exams. They develop targeted study plans, review key concepts, work through practice problems, and help students build test-taking strategies so they can approach exam day with confidence.

In a classroom, teachers must move at a pace that works for the majority of students. With personalized tutoring, our expert tutors focus entirely on your student's learning style, pace, and specific challenges. They can spend as much time as needed on difficult concepts, skip material your student has already mastered, and adapt explanations until the material clicks—resulting in deeper understanding and faster progress.

Yes. Beyond conceptual understanding, our expert tutors can help students with lab report writing, data analysis, experimental design, and hands-on problem-solving skills. Whether your student needs support understanding what happened in a lab or developing stronger scientific communication skills, personalized tutoring covers the practical side of science learning.

Many students show noticeable improvement within the first few weeks of consistent tutoring as key concepts begin to click. However, the timeline depends on factors like the student's starting point, frequency of tutoring sessions, and how actively they engage with the material between sessions. Our expert tutors work with you to set realistic goals and track progress toward them.
