Session Summaries by Finance Tutors

Finance Tutoring review by Cole in Worcester, MA
We reviewed college business course calculations of payroll (Federal tax withholdings, overtime pay, etc.). As a visually impaired learner, the student mostly just struggles with the practical aspects of learning. Besides the immediate challenges, she does a great job in comprehending the material. She is always an engaged learner and a pleasure to tutor. The student is planning on finishing the review of her Chapter 10 homework before our next session. She is doing a great job overcoming the obvious challenges involved with her learning. She understands the material well but struggles to meet many of her assignment deadlines due to her challenges, but she is doing a great job sticking with it and overcoming those challenges. Nice work!

Finance Tutoring review by Aaron in Worcester, MA
Covered Exam #1 and introduced Ordinary Least Squares (OLS). We reviewed expected value and variance. We then found the answers for the mean, standard deviation, Sum, Sum Sq. Deviation, and observations or n. The introduction of OLS included linear regression, graphing data points, finding the line of best fit, learning what Beta represents, and how to read and interpret coefficients. Good session, I feel like the student is rapidly gaining understanding of the material. Extra practice and study strategies are to read the text and go over notes from class, forwarding me any questions, and working over the problems again. We had a good introduction to Ordinary Least Squares that should help build a foundation to learn it.

Finance Tutoring review by Elnora in Worcester, MA
The student and I had a good session. He first completed an excellent review of the method in which his professor has presented items using Excel. We were definitely on the right track in working through many of the problems, and there were only several modifications needed, such as the naming of accounts (to ensure accuracy with the textbook) and also the calculation of rate (and ongoing/related calculations). We also continued exploring the additional detail associated with the expansion of using multiple indirect cost pools with another problem. He is doing an excellent job!

Finance Tutoring review by Joseph in Worcester, MA
We covered a review of single-variable least squares and moved on to a problem from a previous mid-term on a multivariate (2 RHS variable) model. She needs to get her confidence back, but it is good for her to ask questions and go through exactly how the pieces fit together. She should review Covariance and Correlation from her basic stats class just to reacquaint herself with the concepts.
