How can a Economics tutor help you?

Economics is commonly thought of as a course that is solely focused on money, but it delves much deeper than that. Though many of its ideas deal with money, the social science of economics investigates and explains the factors that affect the production, distribution, and consumption of material goods and services. It also touches upon politics and public policy. Economics is a complex subject, and you may have to understand a variety of different concepts, such as the role of prices, allocation, incentives, and scarcity. With so many new and unfamiliar topics being introduced, it's common to feel a little overwhelmed. Many students find it helpful to work with a private tutor who may give them an edge in economics. Varsity Tutors' educational directors may find you an expert economics tutor in Raleigh-Durham to work with you in pursuit of realizing your full potential in your class.

Attempting to understand economics through classroom lectures and coursework may be difficult, as teachers frequently may not take the time to explain the concepts you find challenging in a way you may understand. However, an expert economics tutor in Raleigh-Durham, NC, may help you develop a study plan to make the best use of your time. Whether you're struggling with understanding the role of government and market failure, competition and market structure, or economic fluctuations, your tutor may take into account your preferred learning style and teach you using methods that cater to your needs. They'll also be able to skip over any concepts you've already understood and spend as much time as you need on the topics you'd like more help with.

Session Summaries by Economics Tutors

Economics Tutoring review by Cortland in Raleigh-Durham, NC
In today's session we continued lesson 7 onto chapter 17 in the textbook. Section 17.1 identifies unemployment and inflation as the two major threats to economic stability. First we covered how unemployment is measured, and who is included in the unemployment rate (the percent of the civilian labor force that is not working but actively looking for work). We then discussed the major forms of unemployment including cyclical, structural, seasonal, and frictional unemployment. After that we covered the major causes of inflation including the 'demand pull' (consumer-side cause of inflation) and the 'cost push' (supply-side cause of inflation). To further explain the content I represented the differences between the cost-push and demand-pull effects with supply/ demand graphs.

The student and I discussed resource markets and went over a few problems. The student seemed satisfied, and we agreed that he would be careful to check the answers to them and discuss them with his teacher.

Economics Tutoring review by Elnora in Raleigh-Durham, NC
Today, the student and I focused on economics. He was given a pretest to complete and we reviewed approximately half of the questions that primarily covered macroeconomics. In addition, he learned that his workload in the course is more "daily" in nature and he has periodic learning activities and quizzes that must be completed. Therefore, I provided assistance as he completed the first learning activity that was due tomorrow. A number of the concepts were also related to microeconomics, and he was familiar with many concepts as well. The activity also provides him with a study plan and he will be focusing on the first four sections in his text.

We covered consumer choice theory, various problems involving marginal utility, budget constraints, and indifference curves. The student has a great intuitive grasp of the concepts and the session went well. We discussed the mechanics of the class and developed a schedule of future lessons that fit well with the course schedule.

Economics Tutoring review by Carter in Raleigh-Durham, NC
We worked on Econometrics today. I began by explaining the meaning of the R^2 value in a regression and what that value means with regard to a scatter plot. We then looked at manipulating different formulas for R^2 to understand its relationship with covariance, variance, and standard deviation. We went over some of his homework problems, which covered non-linear regression models using things like logarithms and square roots. This meant working through problems on paper to understand their theory and writing commands in Stata to understand their practical applications.
