What is your teaching philosophy?
I believe that every child can learn, but it takes the teacher to figure out the best way to reach the student.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
I would listen to the student and allow them to tell me about the subject that they need tutoring in and how they feel about the subject.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
Show the student different tools that can assist them in their success.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
I would compliment them on all successes, especially small ones.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
I would ask the student to tell me one thing that they love, and I would substitute the one thing that they love into the learning concept.
How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?
We first begin with defining the vocabulary words to understand the meaning of the words.
What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?
Allowing the students to express their concerns for the subject matter.
How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?
I would allow them to make up a song or dance while we were apart and incorporate the lesson in the song or dance.
What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?
I would have them explain it to me as if I were the student.
How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?
I reinforce every success in the class.
How do you evaluate a student's needs?
I would give them a pretest.
How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?
I teach to the child's learning style.
