We've had the BEST experience with VT! Our tutor has helped my middle schoolers math grades come up from a D to an A for our 8th grader. and from a D to a B for my 6th grader. I'm beyond pleased with how she connected with my boys.

Calculus Tutoring review by Daniel in Gary, IN
We did trig problems. We covered the basics of sine, cosine, tangent, cosecant, secant, and cotangent. The student needs the most work on understanding what each of these functions means. He was a good student and willing to do the work and learn. For the next session, I want to make sure he clearly understands what all these mean. Based off of today's performance, he learned a lot and will continue to do so.

I went over the Taylor and Maclaurin power series expansion of functions and the remainder approximations. I worked problems with the student tonight, and overall she has a very good understanding of the material.

The student has been working on a project on electric circuits. He showed me a paper from school that showed the categories that his teacher used for grading the projects. He received a 50 out of 50 grade. Hands-on projects are the best! Next, we worked on some math homework which taught him how to use everyday measurements to work with numbers. He compared gallons with quarts, pints with cups, etc. He did very well. It was a very successful day.

Calculus Tutoring review by Matjaz in Gary, IN
Today we reviewed the student's last week's test which she got a B for. We consider this a win-win. We went over the omissions made on the test and discussed opportunities for improvement in the future. One particular weakness was the definition of marginal cost which is simply a derivative of the cost function, and the definition of the relative marginal cost, which is just marginal cost divided by cost. We honed in on evaluation of derivatives via product quotient, and indirect function rules, which student has mastered sufficiently. She is confident in her ability to solve such problems. Then we went over the homework for the past and future week. This included implicit derivation, and rate of change in various geometrical configurations. Overall, she is seeing grade improvement over the past term, and is holding a solid B. Further grade improvement towards the A is possible depending on the upcoming final exam.

Calculus Tutoring review by Mason in Gary, IN
We reviewed for an exam on Friday. I'll meet back with the student on Thursday for more prep (with some practice problems). We covered some integration-by-parts, u-substitution, and trig-substitution -- mainly helping with example problems from class that weren't clear; essentially going through step-by-step and making sure that each follows from the previous.
