I graduated from Washington University in St. Louis in 2011 with a Bachelor of Arts in Physics with a second major in classical guitar performance, taking a year off after my sophomore year to study flamenco guitar at the University of Seville in Spain. I started working in biomedical research during my sophomore year and continued throughout college. After graduating, I worked in ophthalmology research at Washington University Medical before moving to New York City, where I am currently conducting breast cancer research as the lab manager in an immunology lab at Columbia University Medical Center. I am extremely comfortable with physics and mathematics (from my studies) as well as biology, chemistry, and biochemistry (through my research experience) and sincerely enjoy tutoring students in those areas. I also enjoy tutoring for standardized tests. While I was studying for the SAT, ACT, and MCAT, all of my preparation was through self-study; as a result, I have a unique approach to preparing for tests that emphasizes knowing the test itself more than the actual material. In addition to tutoring natural sciences and standardized test prep, I tutor Spanish, which I studied for 7 years and spoke for a year while living in Spain. In my spare time, I play guitar, cook for my friends, read, and play with my cat Suki.

I have taught PreAlgebra, Algebra, Geometry, and Algebra II. Although I love travel and have lived both overseas and across the country, I always come back to my hometown, Portland, Oregon. After earning a partial International Baccalaureate degree, I moved to England to pursue a science degree when I was eighteen. While I was there, however, I realized that I needed to focus on my true passion, writing.I came home and earned my BA in English with a minor in writing at Portland State University. Then, I took a few years off from school and traveled all over the United States. Two years ago, I began my Master of Fine Arts in Writing at Pacific University. It's been a wonderful experience, and I'm very lucky to have worked with some superb writers.Writing is communication. It's not words on a page, and it's not just an essay or a novel or the manual to our new blender. It's the storytelling we do on a day to day basis. It's about presenting our own personal knowledge to the world and making a connection. It is vital. Not everyone is a writer, but everyone needs to know how to say: "Here, let me tell you this," and have others understand.When I'm not doing homework, I'm working on my personal writing or art projects. I have two dogs that get walked everyday on the trails near my house, and sometimes I even find time for a ride on my road bike or a hike with one of my friends.

I am a current student at the University of Florida pursuing an Accounting degree and Entrepreneurship minor. Math has always been my passion, and I hope to show fellow students the fun in it!

With a background in creative writing, I am confident that I can help any student struggling to connect with the language arts. I am currently in my junior of college, and my major is Biochemistry with a minor in Spanish. My favorite subjects are Math, Science, and Spanish. I have been tutoring for the past 7 years in Middle school math, Algebra 1 & 2, Spanish 1 & 2, and in pre-algebra. Even though I tutor Spanish and Math, I am most passionate about Math. I enjoy teaching students by playing games and doing fun activities, because in my opinion learning should not only be serious, but fun as well. Also I love rewarding the student for making progressions in the areas that they were weak in and are now making stronger. Lastly, when I first meet a new student, I like to do introductions and give a 10 questionnaire, just to see where the student's weakness and strengths are in that subject. In my spare time, I love to watch movies, play volleyball/football, going dancing/singing, and reading mystery/romantic books.

I have two degrees: a B.A. in English and a B.F.A. in Creative and Professional Writing. I will be going to graduate school for a degree in English with a specialization in 20-21st century literature. The bulk of my experience is with high school and college aged students. I have years of experience with tutoring writing through my undergraduate school, and have mentored for the English program for several years. I will be teaching freshmen English/Writing during graduate school.

Learning is a habit. I grew up hearing that daily and it gradually sunk in as I progressed in school. I always enjoyed figuring out how things worked and why things happened, as my curiosity knew no bounds. As I matured, I discovered how to channel this curiosity into more productive avenues by working in study groups, helping friends answer their own questions which were usually quite similar this mine, This helped develop my confidence in teaching others through college, summer camps and medical school. I love working with different age groups as they all bring unique learning opportunities.My degrees have given me the skills to cover a wide range of subjects in the sciences and medicine, and to value each person I come across. My aim is to give my students a personalised learning experience composed of great learning opportunities and experiences so they can stay engaged, motivated and prepared for not just their classes but for life in general. Mentoring students as they learn is also crucial to the mental aspect of their growth. I also ensure that clear, practical objectives are given so students can stay focused on tasks and are able to take responsibility for their own future. This has provided me with great experience and insight into how students best learn and how to create culturally responsive lessons that students will engage with. I am most passionate about English, Literature, History, and Spanish. In my experience, working to prepare students for state standardized tests has had the additional benefit of helping students to discover what they enjoy reading about. This increase in intrinsic motivation to read has had an important impact on struggling students. I am dedicated towards ensuring that students are provided with an education that increases their quality of life.In my spare time I enjoy reading short fiction, photography, skiing, coaching weightlifting, and traveling with my family.
