I love learning, but I love teaching even more! I grew up with 9 younger siblings (I am second of 11) and we were all homeschooled! I grew up teaching my younger siblings in that environment and never stopped teaching.I believe everyone is entitled to a world class education because no matter what circumstances you were born into, you can change them through education and hard work.Everyone learns differently, and in a world of cookie cutter teaching methods I hope I can help the ones that struggle, not because they aren't intelligent or willing to work, but because they haven't been taught the way they need.

I am a sophomore at Elon University in North Carolina. I am studying biology, chemistry, and public health and I am on a pre-medicine track. At Elon, I am very involved in the College Fellows (Research) Program and I volunteer through the Kiwanis Family. I love working with kids and I love science, so being a tutor is a perfect fit! I have been tutoring since the beginning of high school and I have worked with students who learn best in different ways, so I can tailor my explanations to make sure the student understands everything. I know that this is not always possible in a classroom setting because one person is often teaching 20+ students, so I am extremely happy and grateful I have the opportunity to help through individualized tutoring.

My interest in education stems from my love of learning and the fact that I mostly enjoyed being a student during my years in school. I naturally gravitated toward tutoring and teaching because of their creative aspects. Since we all learn differently, I believe lessons should follow suit.And although I have followed the path of education workwise, I received my degree from the University at Albany as an East Asian Studies major and an English minor because of my love of culture and language.I feel that other languages are not only fun but important, so I spent two years in China teaching ESL to middle schoolers though I didn't know the language. It gave me the opportunity to learn as much as my students were learning every day.The majority of my experience is in teaching students of a younger age, but I have taught those of all ages so that I can be comfortable with whichever.

I also taught Junior High School in a multilingual, multicultural classroom environment.I love teaching languages and make language learning motivating for students. I use different methodology approaches depending on each individual students' learning abilities. I believe in supplementing the syllabus and contents in textbooks with visual aids, games, songs, or cultural topics that may relate to each student's age and preferences, adding real life situations. I use internet sources at all times as well.I do private tutoring services for adults, young adults, and children in their homes.Prepare my tutoring session based on students needs, calling them at home previous to their scheduled tutoring day to find out more about their difficulties as well as the topics to develop in their class. By identifying the needs of learners beforehand and whenever possible, I can adapt content to meet their needs. Assist with homework and other class assignments. I try to deliver learning strategies to improve student self-sufficiency, depending on each student's learning style.

I am a graduate of Georgia College and State University (BA in Sociology with Minors in Spanish and International Studies) and Arizona State University (MA in Special Education with an emphasis in Applied Behavior Analysis). I am bilingual in Spanish and English and have enjoyed living abroad in Paraguay, South America and helping others reach their potential in learning a new language. As a Board Certified Behavior Analyst, I am also passionate about tutoring students with learning barriers so that they are able to receive individualized supports to best achieve their goals.

I have a Bachelor's degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in Integrative Biology, with a minor in Chemistry. I was accepted to Harvard Medical School but will be attending NYU Medical School in the fall on a full tuition scholarship I have worked as a tutor or teaching assistant of some kind for four of the last six years, most recently as a TA for organic chemistry 2. I am most excited about helping other students achieve their dreams of going to medical school by helping them study for the MCAT. Besides MCAT tutoring, my favorite subjects are chemistry, biology, and math which are all subjects I have tutored in before.
