We completed all of his math homework for this week. The focus was on 6.1, which is rewriting and solving exponents and radicals.

We did some more word problems developing and solving equations. We also studied spelling words for sixth grade focusing on repeating the word in her head and spelling the syllables one at a time. The student has done great and made so much progress this summer and I look forward to how she does in school this year!

We covered pulleys and friction and more on free body diagrams. We also did his lab write up. He was enthusiastic and showed dramatic improvement. He went from mid-80s to a 100 on the most recent exam. He has done very well and I am very proud of him.

The student worked on area (area of triangles, trapezoids, parallelograms, kites, and rhombi). We also worked on area word problems and prepared for her quiz on area. Last session we worked on surface area of cones and cylinders and prepared for her quiz. She also completed different algebra review handouts on systems of equations for homework. She is a very hard worker and is doing really well in geometry this year.

We split the session between the online math problem engine (which generated several geometric problems) and a review of basic geometry principles, including the properties of circles, regular polygons, right triangles, and solids. The student made it into the "State" level of MathCounts online; the problems have become more difficult, but are still solvable.

Today the student and I worked on sections 8-1-8-3, covering inverse and direct variation and asymptotes. In the beginning, she didn't understand what an asymptote was, and I made sure to clarify it as we went over the examples in her worksheet. We did several examples together of word problems, using direct and inverse variation until she understood it. Overall the session went very well. I think that if she reviews a little more before the exam tomorrow she will be fine.
