Tutoring review by Naquita in Raleigh-Durham International Airport, NC
The student and I worked with estimating areas of irregular figures and calculating area of parallelograms. She used strategies that worked well for him in both topics. As his multiplication fact fluency improves, his efficiency in these topics will as well. She was well focused on the topic of this session. I will continue to help her point out number relations that help with multiplication and division.

Tutoring review by Phoebe in Raleigh-Durham International Airport, NC
The student completed his homework with relative ease. We utilized a released placement exam to practice different concepts. The student is still struggling with adding and subtracting fractions, although he seems to do fine when he had a set of them to do. It's only when he had to move from concept to concept that he struggles a bit. We looked at inequalities today and discussed the importance of utilizing answer choices to help answer questions. The student checked out another book from the library to use for practice.

Tutoring review by Daniel in Raleigh-Durham International Airport, NC
In this session, we covered review from algebra and precalculus, including functions, geometry, and logarithms. Although the student has not taken a math class for a year, he still has a great deal of mathematical knowledge. However, he has some difficulty organizing his thoughts and choosing the best approach for each problem. We discussed some strategies to address these issues. Immediately, he began applying some of these strategies to his homework and there was a noticeable improvement in his problem solving skills by the end of the session. On Tuesday, he will take a quiz covering review and precalculus. We are very confident he will pass this test. For the next session, we will be covering limits.

Tutoring review by Gauri in Raleigh-Durham International Airport, NC
The student and I worked on homophones and y-ending word plurals (y --> ies). She did a great job! She then worked on her homework from school: two worksheets on nouns and proper nouns, which she understood well. During our next few sessions, I'd like to work more on reading out loud.

Tutoring review by Rachel in Raleigh-Durham International Airport, NC
This was my first session with the student for this school year. He has just begun high school, so we talked a bit about how this adjustment affected his workload and schedule. He then worked on his geometry homework on coordinate shape transformations (rotations, translations, and reflections) and lines of symmetry in shapes. He had an excellent understanding of transformations but needed a little coaching on the other material. Particularly, he was unfamiliar with determining the order and degree of symmetry. After we reviewed this, he started catching on to the concept as he worked through the remaining problems in his homework assignment.
