We covered concepts for the student's advanced graduate statistics course. We discussed chi squared tests, paired sample t-tests, independent sample t-tests, and ANOVA. We also discussed the final project for her class. She, as always, is motivated to perform well and received a good grade on her midterm exam.

The student and I covered absolute value inequalities first. Then we moved to factoring quadratic equations and spent a lot of time on that. Finally, we used factoring quadratics to solve some radical equations, and also solved radical equations that didn't require factoring.

Tutoring review by Eunki in Catoosa, OK
We reviewed the topics we had covered in previous sessions in preparation for the coming exam. The student worked on seeing the forest instead of just the trees this time as he started to put together which methods worked best in certain situations (add/subtract rational expressions vs multiplying/dividing rational expressions vs solving rational equations). His confidence is becoming stronger in the material, and he has started to understand that taking things a little more slowly will paradoxically help him solve the problems faster.

Tutoring review by David in Catoosa, OK
Student #1 and student #2 each got a 106 on their last math quiz on percentages/proportions. They are now learning about probability. Student #1 stated that he is comfortable with it. Student #2 wanted some more review on probability, so I gave them both practice problems. Student #1 and I reviewed problems where you state the event is likely, unlikely, certain or impossible to happen. We also reviewed probability problems involving playing cards. Student #2 and I also reviewed probability problems concerning the roll of a die. Overall they have a pretty good grasp of the probability they have learned so far. They had okay attitudes today.

Tutoring review by Laura in Catoosa, OK
Tonight the student and I finished reviewing for her Ch. 5 test. We focused on her class assignment and creating her study packet. Overall, her strength continues to be the procedural part of this chapter. She asked for help remembering the difference between the midpoint and slope formulas, so we talked about how midpoint is an average and that really seemed to make sense to her. She has her methods down and just needed some extra guided practice. Today, we tried the strategy of taking the review assignment as a test, which I think has been working for her. She does not shy away from the challenge.
