Studying can be hard work, but don't over-stress yourself. Hominy has some great locations you can visit to help you relax and regain focus on your studies. A great first stop is the Fred Drummond Home. The historic home once belonged to the owner of a successful trading and ranching operation. The operation included ranching, banking, and real estate, but only the ranching aspects continued after Fred Drummond's death. After the success of the company, the Drummond family built a three-story home, which was completed in 1905. The Victorian-style home is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. You may take a tour of the refurnished home, during which you will see the native sandstone the first floor was constructed with and the green shingles that cover the upper two floors. You will also be able to learn about the state-of the art lighting and water systems that were installed in the house. Another fun way to spend the day is by visiting the Cha Tullis Gallery. The art gallery has a variety of works ranging from sculptures and paintings to jewelry. The artist's Native American heritage is celebrated in his works of art, which you can see and purchase.

After a day of seeing the sights of Hominy, you will be refreshed and ready to return to your studies. You might excel in your school work with the benefit of tutoring in Hominy, OK.

The student has the analytical skills necessary to succeed in a Pre-Calculus class. However, certain basic algebra methods don't come in very handy. We will begin refreshing of the algebra foundations, especially working with rational functions, solving linear and quadratic equations, graphing functions, etc.

Tutoring review by Victoria in Hominy, OK
During this session, we worked through a review sheet about estimation. She did very well with the content in this worksheet. It also contained several word problems and she did very well deciphering what to do to solve the word problems. We then did a lot of practice with converting percents to decimals and fractions and then how to find the percent of a number. She struggled with it at first, but after some practice she improved. She struggled some with converting percents to decimals. We then did some word problems involving finding the percent of a number with dollar amounts. She did well with this concept.

Tutoring review by Frank in Hominy, OK
The student needed assistance in going over his last exam (areas of 2D figures) to determine what mistakes he made, and then an assignment pertaining to surface areas of pyramids. He is very sharp and can do math operations quickly and often in his head. While re-doing the problems he seemed to understand the concepts well. Carefully drawing out figures and labeling what values are known before calculating the area should help. The assignment for surface areas of pyramids involved lateral surface areas (LA), total surface area (SA), the lateral/slant height (l), a side of the base (s) and sometimes the vertical height (h). Using the last 3 variables and given formulas one can find the two surface areas, and vice versa if given the areas instead. The Pythagorean Theorem often comes in handy. I walked him through how to do these problems but once he saw the method he usually didn't need help conceptually, only minor corrections.

We worked on the review packet for Chapter 11 during our session. The student did a good job of applying the information we worked on last session. I would encourage him to continue to practice FOIL-ing, and factoring to become proficient before the test next week. One more session before his exam may be helpful to go over any remaining tricky areas that he had questions about.

Tutoring review by Cara in Hominy, OK
Today we went over the student's schedule and her planner. We established guidelines for how and when she is to fill out her planner/ calendar. She has a tentative study/ homework schedule in place which can be tweaked as necessary. She is utilizing her organizational tips -- different colored pens/ highlighters for her different subjects. For homework, she should continue to write down assignments and homework due dates in her planner right after each class period (or at the end of the day) before she forgets. She should practice her times tables and remember procedures for order of operations.

Today was a good session. We covered last week's material, as well as going over bonding in detail. I told her the importance of continuous practice, and I left her with some YouTube videos to help her deal with exam jitters. Her exam is tomorrow.
