It's the end of the semester, so the student and I didn't have a whole lot to do tonight. She had already completed an ecology take-home test, so we went over that. I asked her to explain some of the topics and she knew it all :) We also finished an assignment for history.

The student got an 84% on his language arts test! Was so happy for him! All that studying really paid off. Actually, may go higher as the grade didn't account for extra credit. Really wonderful end to the semester and he won't fail English now. We talked about that for a bit and then delved right into cramming for biology. Ran through the study guide, more vocab and general test taking techniques. This exam will be difficult, but I have faith in him. We'll see how he does. Wonderful end to the year. I will see him again on Jan 13.

We started off with exam math today. I gave the student the list of formulas that will be given to him on the assessment and then discussed other math equations. He took a test on the tutoring website and then we went over the answers and explanations together. He then wrote an exam-style essay. We thought of ideas for the essay together and then he wrote the essay on his own, expanding on those ideas. I then edited his essay and explained the corrections. He read a reading passage and answered 7 questions to go along with it. We then reviewed the answers together. Finally, we worked on sentence completion with exam vocabulary together.

We spent the hour studying for the student's social studies quiz, mostly focusing on textbook comprehension skills. We read the textbook, and I asked him questions to probe further into the context to really understand.

After helping the student with a Geometry problem, we worked on the review sheet for his Biology mid-term exam. He should continue to make quiz cards for the terms and concepts he is unsure of. I encourage him to make notes and cards for every term and concept, even if he feels secure. These extra details will make all the difference.

First, the student made a to-do list for the day. Then he worked on a reading comprehension packet about Egypt, some math homework, and an English assignment where he wrote part of a story in first and third person.
