Do not let the GMAT intimidate you or hold you back from possible career opportunity. Let's take a deeper look into the GMAT.
What materials are covered in the Varsity Tutors Memphis GMAT course?
The materials covered in the Memphis GMAT course are similar to what is on the actual exam. You are required to respond to multiple choice and essay questions. The response type that you need to use is stated at the beginning of each section. The total test time, minus optional breaks, is around 3.5 hours. The four sections on the GMAT are titled Verbal Reasoning, Analytical Writing, Integrated Reasoning, and Quantitative Reasoning.
Beginning with Verbal Reasoning, the topics covered within this section are reading comprehension, critical reasoning, and sentence correction. You will be asked to answer questions from a given passage, evaluate concept development, and show your understanding of words and statements. You also might be asked to form a plan of action and identify sentence structures. This section of the GMAT has 36 questions and you are given 65 minutes to complete this section. Remember not to rush, but work efficiently so you can answer all questions within the allotted amount of time.
The next section is the Analytical Writing. This is your essay question and you are required to provide a response to a given argument. Within this section of the test, you will have the opportunity to show off your advanced writing skills as well as your thought organization skills. You might want to think about making a quick outline to enhance the quality of your thought expression. The professors that score this portion of the test look for how well you can provide support for your examples and how well you can read and evaluate an argument.
When you arrive at the Integrated Reasoning section of the GMAT you will be asked to answer 12 questions within 30 minutes. This section includes graphs, charts, and tables. You will be asked to answer questions based on graphics data provided within the section. Some questions require a two-part response and you will need to show that you can interpret graphics. This section shows colleges and universities that you can resolve difficult problems by using different forms of data.
Finally, the Quantitative Reasoning section will require you to use your math and science skills to answer multiple choice questions. The time allotted for this portion of the GMAT exam is 62 minutes and you are expected to answer 31 questions. The focus of this portion of the exam focuses on problem-solving and data sufficiency. You will be asked to display your use of reasoning skills to choose the best answer to the question that is asked.
