Chesterton Human Development Tutoring FAQ
Human development is the study of the process by which we come to exist, and covers the entire course of life. Human development starts with the study of embryology and ends with the study of gerontology, and covers a great deal of information in between! Without a doubt, a field that encompasses the biology of embryology, the physiology of adult functioning, and the psychology of behavioral development is so broad as to seem overwhelming. Students are expected to cover a lot of material in a short amount of time. In classroom-style lectures, missing a single theory or explanation given by the lecturer could leave you confused and struggling to catch up. If you are someone who has a hard time processing information through self-studying and lectures, consider contacting Varsity Tutors and asking for help connecting with a human development tutor in your area.
Any student of human development must possess a capacity to learn large amounts of detailed information, as well as a wealth of general theory. Building a cohesive picture of human development is the key to success, but it is also an enormous challenge. The educational directors at Varsity Tutors can help you connect with a human development tutor who can help you get a head start on the learning process. You might spend weeks trying to develop your own compass to navigate this incredibly diverse field. Rather than struggle to process information on your own, why not work with a professional educator instead? These instructors have spent years studying human development, and they know how best to approach its broad and challenging subject material, from aging and adolescence to cultural approaches. Not only have they earned high grades in courses in human development, they have also been carefully screened to ensure strong teaching and communication skills. You can be sure that your tutor is an enthusiastic instructor who understands your precise needs. Do not trust your success in your human development course to generic resources or to large review sessions run by teaching assistants. Instead of running the risk of falling behind in this fast-paced class, try working with a skilled tutor who will take the time to discover which study techniques work best for you.
When you work with a private human development tutor, you are given a customized education that is not afforded to traditional students in the classroom setting. Instead of struggling to keep up with the pace of each lesson, you are in control of how fast or slow you want to cover various concepts. This means that you can spend extra time reviewing problematic theories while completely ignoring content that you are well-versed in. Furthermore, as your tutor gets a feel for your learning style and personality, he or she can present lessons in a manner that is best suited for you.
If you are ready to better your understanding of human development, contact Varsity Tutors' educational directors and let us help you connect with an experienced teacher. Tutors can tailor your course of study to your needs. Whether you are an undergraduate psychology student or a medical student, there is an experienced tutor who is excited to help you in-person or in face-to-face online sessions using our live learning platform. Contact Varsity Tutors and let us help you connect with a private human development tutor today. It doesn't matter if you need help making sense of the entire course, or simply want to study for an upcoming exam, we can help you find the tutor you need to succeed. Your investment of time and effort could pay off after just a handful of tutoring sessions, and you'll be well on your way to success in your human development course!

Recent Chesterton Human Development Tutoring Session Notes
The student started with a pop quiz covering material we had worked on together, while I checked his note cards. Afterwards, we reviewed his answers and the definitions for his note cards. On the quiz, he did very well. From this point on, we focused on reviewing older material covering DNA, transcription, and translation. During the session, he did remarkably well and was engaged with the material. He responded to questions in the material as if they were recent topics, and was confident in his choices (or was able to backtrack by himself to the correct answer when he was not 100% correct). At the end of this very productive session, I left him with a few more terms for our next session.
The student was about to do a dissection of a mink so we did the pre-lab together. We discussed vocabulary such as ventral, dorsal, proximal, distal, ventral, lateral, and medial. We talked about the sagittal planes, transverse planes, and midsagittal planes. We discussed the physiology of mammals in terms of their physical properties, care for their young, social behaviors, reproduction, and diet. She and I clarified electronegativity and the trends in the periodic table.
The student is starting a new unit in biology on classifications. We went over worksheets on the kingdoms, the domains, and on viruses. We also reviewed for the assessment test in math. She got most of the practice questions right, and she understood the material. She didn't struggle with anything we went over.
We covered introduction to plants as well as primitive plants and seedless plants. The student struggled a little with all the new terms to remember, but after repeating the material multiple times, she was able to remember and understand them all.
We specifically covered connective tissue portion of different types of tissues. The focus was on looking at cartilage, bone and blood. We covered different types and specifics of each criterion. No scores were seen. The student is definitely improving in understanding the materials. I did not leave any extra practices for him and no concerns were seen as we will be spending more time on preparing him for the finals end of May.
During today's session, The student and I focused on the evolution of the various phyla of the Animal Kingdom. Starting with the lowly sponge, we traced the evolutionary legacy of animals all the way up to the most advanced phyla, the mammals. Along the way, we discussed the critical evolutionary changes that separated previous phyla from subsequent ones. We also looked at cladograms and discussed their use. Finally, we discussed the students upcoming fetal pig dissection, and I gave her some pointers on anatomical terminology and dissection technique.
