I am a sophomore at Columbia University, studying political science and philosophy. I often like to joke that teaching runs in my blood I come from a family of teachers who instilled in me the passion to help others learn. Since I could grasp concepts I learned in school, I've always gone out of my way to help my fellow classmate. As I got older, that became formalized tutoring through school organizations and I eventually worked for the New York City Department of Education. There, I helped students with their standardized testing for the state assessments and the SAT. I love teaching math because I feel it's the subject where I can gauge the strength of my students best. Math is such a versatile (though widely-hated) subject, where every unique learning style can always result in the same answer. I also get the most freedom when it comes to designing questions to help students grow and practicing alongside them easily the most fun part of a tutoring session with me. Even though I have tutored many subjects, my expertise is in highschool math and science classes. I also teach chess, having a 1200+ rapid rating. I have a BA in Political Science from New College of Florida and a MFA in Photography from the Savannah College of Art and Design. While I'm a photographer by trade, I also have a passion for and expertise in Math and the Natural Sciences -- as well as French and Spanish, having studied and worked in both Paris and Central America. While I'm proficient now, I struggled with both languages early on, and understand the challenges of both starting a new language and in moving from a conversational to a more proficient level. To work towards my goal of becoming an Interventional Cardiologist, I am currently conducting research in Cardiology at St. Francis Hospital, where I also volunteer every year. I tutor in ACT subjects, SAT subjects, AP subjects, Biology, Spanish, and much more! I have successfully obtained my New York State Seal of Biliteracy in Spanish, one of the subjects I'm most passionate about. Being an AP Scholar with Distinction and a recipient of the AP Capstone Diploma has allowed me to tutor an academically diverse array of students. I have tutored previously through afterschool homework help programs at my high school, as well as through Math, Science, and National Honor Society opportunities. However, having been a Children's Museum volunteer and a baseball coach, I enjoy watching young kids and teens improve in not just school, but in many aspects of life.
