I am very passionate about the German language and culture and I am eager to ignite this passion in others. I began studying German at age 12 in middle school and went on to complete a BA degree at the State University of New York at Oswego. I subsequently completed a Masters degree through Middlebury College and was able to study in Berlin, Germany during this time. I believe in taking an academic as well as cultural approach to language learning, so that the language can truly "come alive" in the mind of the student.

In grade school, I wanted to be a history teacher. I looked up to my history teachers in high school and I realized that I had a skill for teaching. During high school, I tutored in history, biology, English and writing. I understood the different ways that students can learn whether that be visually, physically, verbally, logically, or socially. I tried to use real life examples and help my students learn the best way they know how to learn. I was patient with them and I took time to figure out their personalities in order to assess how to help them learn more efficiently. I think tutoring is more than trying to help a student pass a class or do some homework; its trying to teach them how to learn better in anything they take on. Later on, I volunteered at a elementary school with a professional company which helped kids catch up to their reading level and that gave more a guideline on how to create a lesson plan for children with learning disabilities. Recently, I volunteered at a high school to help young girls better themselves in all their subjects.

We all speak a language which makes it common to all of us. This reflects the nature of language and the will or the need to communicate. Yet all the languages are not the same and, learning them can be something difficult but necessary for intercultural exchange to people in contact. I will be glad as a French near-native speaker, to help people achieve that goal.

I recently graduated from Manhattanville College in Purchase, NY with my BA in English Literature and Secondary Education. I plan on attending Marist College in Summer 2017 to obtain my Master's in Educational Psychology. My passion for English had started in my early days in elementary school when I used reading and writing as an escape, and a way to express my feelings when I felt like I wasn't being listened to. However my passion for Education arose when I found I genuinely enjoyed helping my peers with their homework, with lessons, and even with projects. I love to see the look of students and peers when they finally understand something that had been escaping them. I also just really like helping people in anyway that I can.Although, don't be frightened, I'm actually a pretty relatable person so if something is bothering you, don't be afraid and know you can tell me. I've helped many peers in the past both with their coursework and also with things that were bothering them. Funny enough when the personal problem was solved I saw a strong comeback in the subject that was bothering them.The way I look at it I'm here to help you succeed, and I will use my content and education knowledge to help you in every area and in every way that I can. I have had nearly 100% success with every student that I've worked with. What about the "nearly" you might ask? I hold a Bachelor's of Arts in English from SUNY Albany, and a Master's of Arts in Creative Writing from Edinburgh Napier University in Edinburgh, Scotland. I am currently pursuing my doctorate degree, as my ultimate goal is to become a professor of English Literature. I like to think of myself as a laid-back, nature-loving, writer. It is my belief that with patience and will, anything can be learned.

I have been a volunteer tutor and tennis and life skills instructor for the past 10 years. I have worked youth and adult of all ages and have achieved success with every age group I have worked with. I love sharing my knowledge with people in a fun and engaging way. I love explaining topics through a variety of interactive and interesting methods. My favorite thing about tutoring is helping people understand why what they are learning is important. Once you know why you learn something you are much more inclined to focus and challenge yourself with it. I believe education is vital in the world today but more importantly having a desire and wanting to learn is significantly more important. I make it my goal to encourage students to become independent learners.

With experience working with young elementary students, high school students, college applicants, and college students, I bring an eagerness to adapt my guidance to each individual. As a tutor, I am excited to tailor each and every session to a particular student's needs and preferred method of learning.

From teaching in a traditional classroom to tutoring college students in paper writing and editing, I have much experience helping others further themselves in their education by building confidence, voice and academic empowerment. My primary focus is on student engagement and building a tutor-student relationship based on trust, honesty and open-mindedness. I see student success beyond just comprehension or memorization. I help students to truly synthesize the skills and concepts they need to feel confident in their internalization of the knowledge as they reach their goals. After many years in the computer industry, I recently decided to enrich my life by returning to one of the favorite things Ive enjoyed doing in my life teaching. I completed my undergraduate studies at Franklin and Marshall College. Upon obtaining my graduate degree (M.A.) in mathematics from Wesleyan University, I spent three years teaching math at a private high school in Stamford, CT before going to work in the private sector for IBM. Eventually I left IBM and started my own company in the computer leasing industry. Even though throughout my career I have been in mostly sales positions, I found that my teaching background proved invaluable when explaining to my clients how new technologies could benefit their organizations.I think my real world experience and my love of math, can bring a unique perspective to a student who, for whatever reason, is looking to improve his or her math skills. Whether you are struggling to grasp new concepts or looking to deepen your understanding of what you are being taught, I can help you. My approach to making math understandable is to explain many different examples to help you build confidence in your abilities and use real life applications wherever possible to keep it interesting.When Im not working I enjoy cycling, downhill and x-c skiing, hiking, and skating.
