Tutoring review by Kiera in Clifton Park, NY
We covered derivative rules. The student was struggling with how to use the rules, but after a bit of practice, she picked up the skills very quickly and was totally self-sufficient in solving problems. While she has a bit of trouble with initial understanding of the rules, she was very able to execute the problems by the end of the session. I think that the next few tests and sections of work will come much more easily to her, and that she will be very proficient at Calculus in a short time.

Today the student and I covered a chapter on vector-valued functions. We covered parametrization of vector functions, graphing the vectors, velocity and acceleration problems, and normal and tangent vectors. The most difficult topic was graphing the problems from just the parametrized equations. However, Nathalie seemed to be comfortable with the majority of this topic since it was very similar to the material on her last exam.

In this session with the student, we tackled Math. There was a geometry packet her teacher assigned that she needed help reviewing. As her assignments go into more advanced co-ordinate geometry, she seems to be facing problems. Today, we tackled the different chapters and concepts that were required for the completion of the packet. I left her with detailed notes and completed problems, but I'd assign her some problems of my own so that she can practice them in her spare time. Overall, we made good progress.

Tutoring review by Saberi in Clifton Park, NY
Today's session was a review of the material we covered in our last session and extended into thinking critically about the material. Our focus today was on the student's homework - identifying which of the 5 theorems for parallel lines were being used and then solving for an unknown angle/ variable. From the beginning of our session with the practice problem from last session to the end of our session with the "thinking critical" questions, he was very actively engaged and was guiding me through problems or giving me answers with confidence. He has a test Monday and he assured me that he thought the current material was easy - a very positive attitude! He was also able to quickly correct himself whenever he noticed a mistake. I've noticed that sometimes there may be slight questions when trying to solve for x in terms of order of operations, but that may be easily ironed out with some practice problems during our next session. I left him with 10 practice problems on identifying pairs of angles - a little more practice before his test. Some were slightly more challenging than others, but after today's session, I believe he'll be able to complete them all correctly.
