I am a Chemical Engineer. I currently work as a Sr. Operations Engineer at a chemical plant in Salisbury, NC. I'm a certified trainer with my organization. Although my career is fulfilling, I'm passionate about education and have always wanted to be a teacher.I particularly enjoy teaching math and science. Neither of these subjects came easy to me when I was younger, so I can understand the frustrations of students who struggle in these areas. However, I am living proof that anyone can learn to understand the material and even learn to love it!When tutoring a student, I am extremely patient. I understand that struggling with a subject can be frustrating and many people prefer to avoid the work all together. I have learned that relating difficult topics to something the student enjoys is an effective learning tool. I combine this technique with hands-on examples. In my experience, practice does make perfect!I tutor in many subjects, including the following:- Pre-algebra- Algebra- Pre-calculus- Calculus- Statistics- Chemistry- Mass transfer- Fluid dynamics- Heat transfer- Organic Chemistry- And more! Contact me to see if I'm a good fit for you.

I recently graduated with a BA in neuroscience from Carthage College. During college, I worked as a lab assistant helping students design, execute, and analyze research projects. Since graduation I have been working towards becoming a medical student. I enjoy tutoring to bring clarity to seemingly complex concepts. Biology is my favorite subject to tutor because most problems boil down to a few core principles with a vast breadth of applications.

ACT Prep Tutor • +71 Subjects

I am a rising senior at Harvard College pursuing an AB in Government. Academically, I have diverse interests, including history, language, math, physics, philosophy, music, and politics. In high school, I tutored elementary, middle, and high school students in music, math, ACT and SAT prep, and Spanish. At Harvard, I spent a year as a course assistant in the math department, helping to teach introductory undergraduate calculus. Currently, I volunteer with the Leadership Institute at Harvard College (LIHC) as part of its Social Outreach Committee. This work involves teaching a weekly course called "Fundamentals of Leadership" to a class of middle school students. Overall, I have found my experiences tutoring math to be the most rewarding. In all of these experiences, I have found it is helpful for students to work with someone relatively close to their own age. As someone who enjoys problem-solving for its own sake, I often find myself in the position of explaining difficult concepts and abstract ideas to people with very different backgrounds and personalities than my own. Generally, people learn best from examples they find relevant, interesting, and concrete. My main hobby outside of class is music. I play viola in both the Harvard-Radcliffe Orchestra and the Harvard Bach Society Orchestra; I also enjoy listening to music of many different genres, especially rock and classical. Additionally, I like going to the gym, watching HBO, and travelling.

As a recent graduate in Chemical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and a passionate mathematician, I am looking to share my insight and passion through tutoring students. I strive to add fun to subjects that are usually seen as bland or less than exciting, and create a positive learning atmosphere for each student to grow and prosper in.My tutoring and education experience stems from 7 Winters' worth of skiing and snowboarding instruction, with a specialty in childhood and adolescent education (ages ranging from 4-16). I have been able to refine my teaching techniques through hundreds of lessons, and hold a highly positive track record with clients, students, and fellow instructors. Working as an instructor, I feel the best when I see my students working on their skills after the lesson on the mountain and seeing them, their friends, and their family have fun.I have previously tutored on two separate occasions as well. Recently, I was tutoring a third-grade student in all of her subjects, working on effective studying, review, and homework help. Previously I tutored a first-year college student in Chemistry I, helping her transform from a struggling student to a success story through careful and patient review of the materials and implementing relevant real-world applications into my work.I would be honored to tutor you or your budding student, and have a great day!

As a graduate from UNC Asheville with a BA in literature and a BA in sociology, and as a lover of learning, I am passionate about helping others reach their academic goals. I am also patient and open to creative teaching methods, because utilizing creativity has helped me achieve my own goals. I have worked with high school and middle school students in SAT and ACT prep classes, and am open to tutoring all ages. As an individual on the autism spectrum, I also understand other autistic people well and am detail oriented, thorough, and dedicated to the success of all students including students with exceptionalities. During my undergraduate career my concentration was in creative and analytical writing and as such I am best suited to help with essay structuring and writing, but I am also well suited to assist in test prep and reading due to my education and my passion for these subject areas. I love to read and write, and I look forward to hearing from you and sharing my passion and skill sets.

Rachelle

ACT English Tutor • +38 Subjects

My name is Rachelle and I am a recent graduate from Arizona State University. I graduated Summa Cum Laude with a bachelors in philosophy. I will be attending the Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law in the fall of 2012. I have always been successful in academics and enjoy school thoroughly. I have also served as a Military Police Officer for the Arizona Army National Guard for over four years.I have always assisted my peers in school (mostly by the request of teachers and professors) from high school and well into college. I am a nanny as well, and help the children I nanny with their schoolwork. I have tutored Math, Science, Spanish, English, etc., from elementary school through college. The reason I think I manage to be successful in helping others is that I recognize the different types of learning styles. Some individuals are verbal learners (like me), others are physical learners, and others have even different styles of learning (there are seven recognized types of learning). Teachers can attempt to teach to different learning styles, but sometimes trying to accommodate for all seven can be incredibly tedious, especially when there are a lot of students in a class. In these cases, your child could be struggling with a subject merely because it isn’t being taught to him/her in a way that is conducive with his/her learning style. This is where a tutor, particularly one capable of recognizing this need, comes in.In my free time I like to watch movies and read. I also enjoy drawing and painting. When I’m feeling particularly adventurous, I like to go rockclimbing and skydiving (anything to get my adrenaline going!). I enjoy being outside, unless it’s terribly hot. And most of all, I love trying new things.

Joseph

9th Grade Math Tutor • +47 Subjects

Hello, my name is Joseph! I received my Bacehlor's of Science in Biomedical Engineering from the University of North Carolina. Currently, one of my biggest passion is using CAD software to design prosthetic implants. I have been a math tutor since my sophomore year in high school, and it has always been so rewarding to help students understand material, from learning how to use the Pythagorean Theorem to calculating integrals. Being an engineer, I personally know the difference between what a good/bad teacher can provide to a student's learning experience. I aim to understand the student's learning style and altering my methods for each student's needs. I do my very best to not only help students reach the right answer but to make sure they completely understand the subject at hand. It is important to me that students enjoy the learning process, so I aim to make tutoring sessions both intriguing and challenging. If I am not tutoring or working, I spend my spare time swimming, watching sports, basketball or football, and cooking. I look forward to working with you!

I am a graduate of Northwestern Law, where I served on the board of the Journal of International Human Rights. Prior to law school, I taught courses and provided one-on-one tutoring on the SAT, ACT and GRE. More recently, I have focused on helping students master the LSAT. I particularly enjoy providing individualized instruction. We each have strengths and weaknesses when it comes to learning and test-taking, and I've found that remarkable advancements happen when an approach is tailored to the student's unique attributes.I recently moved to the New York area after working in litigation in Chicago. Outside of work, I spend a lot of time exploring the area and reading.
