I am a passionate educator currently residing in the DC area. I graduated in 2015 from the University of Georgia with a degree in Science Education. I have much experience working with students of all ages from summer camps, student teaching, City Year, mentoring, and tutoring. I love working with young people of all ages and am excited to get started!

I recently graduated from the University of South Carolina's Honors College and earned a BA in Criminal Justice and a BS in Mathematics. I will be going back to USC in August to get my Master's of Teaching in Secondary Education - Mathematics. I absolutely love tutoring and teaching. Math is a hard subject and it is vital to have someone there who cares about you and helps you achieve your academic goals. I have been tutoring for the past two years both at tutoring firm and freelance work. Specifically, I have been working with two middle school boys for two years covering pre-Algebra and Algebra 1. At my tutoring firm, I have tutored every age and subject from fifth grade to 12th grade calculus, as well as ACT and SAT test prep. I primarily enjoy tutoring Algebra since it is so necessary for a strong mathematical foundation. I also enjoy tutoring geometry and AP Calculus.

I am currently a Freshman majoring in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at Johns Hopkins University. Before attending the university, I went to a high school in Illinois called the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy. There, I served as a Residential Hall Tutor, where I would serve shifts every day and help students in my residential hall who needed help on their homework or help studying for tests. In addition, I was a part of the school's PROMISE program that helped to foster interest in math and science among underprivileged and economically disadvantaged middle school students. I developed and taught curriculum to a group of 20 students.Throughout my tutoring experience, I have enjoyed tutoring math and chemistry the most. In fact, I loved it so much that I chose to pursue a major requiring chemistry.Outside of academics, I like to work out, play basketball, watch tv (especially the Marvel tv series on Netflix), and play video games.

I am a retired teacher with twenty seven years of experience, teaching all subjects, at grades 3,5,6,7 and 8. This has given me the opportunity to develop very effective teaching strategies.Also, I have taught Adult Education (GED) for several years and my true belief is that there is a genius who resides in each individual and I am an expert at helping my students identify their genius and use it to their fullest potential.My high success rate can be attributed to a strong knowledge of subject matter, effective teaching strategies, and a total commitment to helping students achieve success. Knowing a student's learning style is the key to academic improvement and also results in an enhanced self-concept.

Currently, I am working with my father in his business and would like to purse a MBA in the near future.I have been formally tutoring since high school. During my time at Baltimore Polytechnic Institute, I tutored my fellow classmates and students across the city in mathematics. Most recently, in college I had the wonderful opportunity to work with the America Counts program to mentor and tutor middle school students.While I have tutored extensively in mathematics, I also am available to teach a broad range of subjects. My favorite subject to tutor is mathematics because it is absolutely necessary in everything we do. I enjoy explaining the concepts to students and helping them identify what is missing in their train of thought.My experience in tutoring has taught me a lot about how to be an improved tutor and mentor. I understand that learning is challenging and that patience is very necessary to be successful in tutoring. I have also learned that a tutor is also a mentor not just an instructor that just tells the students which problems to do in their textbook. My tutoring philosophy is to have the student show me what they know and build on it. I will explain and teach them to remember what they do not already know. I have also done some freelance tutoring, served as a bilingual aid for Spanish speaking students working on their GED/HSED, and tutored at Madison Area Technical College in Madison, WI. I currently tutor grade school mathematics through calculus. Math has always been my favorite subject to tutor, I have a firm belief that everyone has what it takes to be good in mathematics. My goal is to help make sure math is something that everyone I work with is comfortable using, rather than a topic that people shy away from. My tutoring style is one that builds on what the student has been exposed to, while focusing on reinforcing and expanding the areas the student is confident in.In my free time I enjoy exploring new restaurants, hearing live bands, going out dancing, reading, finding new things I haven't explored, and spending time with my friends and children.
