After spending three years working in the world of finance - two years of investment banking in New York and a year of private equity in Boston - I have made the transition to education. With a Bachelors degree in Accounting & Business from Washington and Lee University, my subject areas of interest are as follows: Accounting, Business, Finance, Economics, Statistics, and the following levels of Math - Middle School, Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, Pre-Calculus, College Algebra and Calculus. In addition to these subject areas, I am also qualified to tutor SAT Prep and am excited to help students conquer this standardized test while setting themselves up for a successful college education. Continuing with my personal education, I am currently a graduate student at the Johns Hopkins School of Education where I am working towards a Master of Science in Education with a concentration in Independent Schools - a highly successful program in the world of education, which prepares teacher candidates with instructional and classroom / behavior management skills necessary to teach successfully at all levels independent schools.As a tutor, I have the ability to adapt to each individual student and work with a range of learning styles in order to ultimately achieve subject mastery. With a focus in math and finance, I am a believer in the real world application of subject content and strive to include real-world examples so that my students understand the bigger picture of what we are studying.Beyond my interests in education, I am an avid sports fan with my favorite sports being football, basketball, lacrosse and golf. After playing lacrosse at Washington and Lee, I continue to play in competitive leagues for lacrosse and a number of other sports (e.g., flag football, hockey, kickball, squash) - essentially trying to stay as active as possible.With my practical experience in finance, I feel that I bring a unique and effective approach to education, and I look forward to working with my students to achieve subject mastery while laying the foundation for educational success.

It is my mission to help people realize how easy education and subjects can be. If someone fails a class it is the failing of the instructor not the student. We used to have these values and I am trying to bring them back. Learning is fun and just requires work like anything else. I am trying to make education easy and simple.I am currently seeking to get my MBA from ASU. As such, many of my favorite subjects are business related. I love supply chain management and how it relates to everything in the business field. Understanding how logistics works and how interconnected everything is fascinates me. But as I got my start in mathematics, I try to relate everything to teachable theories that breakdown into simple facts.My tutoring style is often based on this approach. Everything is related as long as you are able to make that connection. I like to take something that seems foreign and break it down into its basic concepts and relate that to something that is familiar. I have found that small victories win wars.Outside of education, I am an avid hiker. I live in one of the greatest states to do it in and I plan on exploring all over. Outside of hiking, I enjoy travelling, beer surfing, couch surfing, and karaoke. If I am not out doing something, I am then snuggled up reading a good book or watching a great movie. I find that people who forget to take pleasure in the simple things in life often find themselves at a lost.

My name is Elyse and I am from California, USA but currently live in Mexico City, Mexico. I have a degree in Accounting and have 3 months of experience teaching business courses in China. I have a teaching certification to teach business courses to children through adult age. I enjoy doing yoga daily, taking daily walks, and trying new things I have never experienced before. I have over 6 years of tutoring experience with students of all ages! I graduated from high school as the Class Valedictorian in 2016, and then within 2 years I completed a Bachelors in Neuroscience from the Ohio State University. Currently, I'm pursuing a Masters in Pharmacology, and working at the NIH researching pre-eclampsia and preterm birth. I aim to apply to MD-PhD programs this year, and specialize in Perinatology and Neonatology!I have always grown up in an environment that appreciates and encourages learning, and I love helping others achieve their academic goals! I have a lot of experience with AP classes, and I took over 15 courses and received college credit for ALL of them! I also have a lot of experience with tutoring students in elementary school, and middle school. I am able to adapt to all learning styles, and would love to have the opportunity to mentor even more students.
