What skills will I be developing in a Seattle SAT course?
When test day arrives, you will face three primary sections: Writing and Language, Reading, and Math. You will also have the option of completing an Essay section. The total amount of time that the test allows is three hours, although you will get an extra fifty minutes if you choose to take the Essay portion. This test will assess many of the skills that you have learned throughout high school. Let's have a look at each of the sections to get a better idea of what subjects the SAT requires you to know.
In the Writing and Language section of the SAT, you will have 44 multiple-choice questions and 35 minutes to complete them. These questions will relate to passages that you must be able to read efficiently and improve upon. This section of the test will evaluate your ability to improve sentence structure and polish syntax. In order to succeed in this section of the test, you must have an excellent command of English and savvy editorial skills.
Once you get to the Reading section, you will have 65 minutes to answer 52 questions. This part of the test will assess how well you can read a passage and extract information from it. For instance, you may need to read over a passage and then use evidence from within the passage to answer the questions. This requires a sharp ability to form inferences and connections between different pieces of data. Not only that, but you'll need to be able to pick out which pieces of information are relevant. You must be a quick thinker and an effective reader.
The Math section of the SAT will require you to answer 58 questions in 80 minutes. Bear in mind that this section is divided up into a 25-minute session without a calculator and a 55-minute section with a calculator. The Math section will test your knowledge of such topics as algebra and data analysis. To succeed in this section, you must be able to formulate efficient solutions to complex mathematical problems. Additionally, these questions may also require you to look at real-world problems, extract all of the relevant data, and apply mathematical techniques to arrive at a solution.
If you choose to take the Essay portion of the test, then you will have 50 minutes to answer one essay question. In this section, you will read a passage and provide a written evaluation of the argument that the author is making. You must be able to provide textual evidence that supports your claims. Keep in mind that you will not be agreeing or disagreeing with the author, but rather analyzing the argument itself. In order to succeed in this section, you must be able to compose an organized essay that demonstrates a strong grasp of written English.

She taught me how important it is to allow students to discuss the topic because this verbal processing can lead to greater insights/revelations about the material. Amelia: Seattle SAT course instructor
I am passionate about tutoring and about making students love learning. I can help with test prep, study skills, organizational skills, or a variety of subjects including up to college level physics, chemistry, and biology. I am currently finishing my Master of Athletic Training, and am extremely knowledgeable in the fields of Exercise Science, Anatomy, and Healthcare. In my free time, I love to hike and bike as well as attend sporting events.... When students are struggling with reading comprehension, I will ask them to underline, highlight, and identify any vocabulary words they do not understand. Then, we will begin to puzzle out the meaning of the word using contextual clues. Additionally, I find that preparing adequately for readings by reading subject headings first can allow students to prepare their mind for the task at hand.

...I value education, efficiency, wit, kindness, and the Oxford comma, and am constantly searching for new challenges and opportunities. I enjoy tutoring because it gives me a chance to develop a relationship with a student where we can work together to accomplish his/her/their goals. I love getting to know new people and try my best to tailor sessions to my students, so please feel free to reach out to me with any questions!... I believe that every student is an individual learner; what may work for one may not work for another. Communication will always be my top priority in teaching, and I begin all of my tutoring relationships with a discussion about academic goals and how we can reach them. Having a road map of sorts is helpful not only for boosting my students' confidence about their abilities and progress, but also to help organize their thought processes and approaches in a way that can be benefit their future study habits.
