So why not consider taking an Albany SAT course provided by Varsity Tutors? In the paragraphs that follow, you'll get a closer look at what's actually tested on the SAT as well as how a course can help you prepare for it. What do you need to know before taking the SAT?
The SAT was designed for the purpose of helping college admissions committees evaluate which of their applicants are most suited for success at the collegiate level of study. To accomplish that goal, the exam is split into three required sections that focus on topics in Reading, Writing and Language, and Math. The SAT also has an optional SAT section that you may or may not decide to complete. The test has a total time limit of 3 hours or 3 hours and 50 minutes depending on whether or not you decide to do the Essay section.
The first section of the exam we'll cover is Math. This test section is actually divided into two parts based on the questions that you're allowed to use a calculator to solve and the ones you're not. The exam features a series of multiple-choice questions that cover the most important math topics that you would've studied in your classes. You'll be asked to answer questions on things like algebra, data analysis, and more. You'll have a total of 80 minutes to complete 58 multiple-choice questions on this part of the SAT.
The Writing and Language section asks you to read a series of written passages that focus on a variety of different academic disciplines. The score that you earn on this part of the exam will be combined with your score from the Reading section to create one 200 to 800 point score. Some of the passages that you read in this section will include tables, graphs, and charts. That means you may want to practice analyzing these things to prepare for this section of the SAT.
The last required SAT section focuses on Reading. This part of the exam has a 65-minute time limit and a total of 52 multiple-choice questions. The section asks test-takers to read passages on things like classical literature, historical documents, science, and social science, among other things. You'll then need to respond to a number of questions that assess your understanding of each passage.
You may also decide to complete the SAT Essay section. Students are given 50 minutes to read a passage and then write an essay that addresses that passage. This section requires that you work quickly to develop a thesis and craft a compelling piece of writing. You'll be graded based on the strength of the claims you make and the quality of your essay. You can get help preparing for this challenging process by signing up for an Albany SAT course. The next section will focus on the many ways that a test prep course can supplement your study plan.
