It's important that students practice the skills they learn right away through guided and unguided practice problems. Students should be given the chance to figure out the problem for themselves before help is given.

Teaching, for me, represents the chance to help students and peers find their way to new understandings. This might be as simple as a better way to find "x" or as complex as the next great thesis on Shakespeare. In the end, it's all about finding the heat in whatever subject is being explored.
